IPFreely (1470), Lewiston, New York, USA Feb 28, 2004 Clear amber color, off white head, fully diminishing. Very sweet malt aroma, some alcohol. Flavor is big time malt, very sweet, not too sweet but damn close to my tolerance of sweet. Alcohol is fairly assertive, but overall masked pretty well. Full body. Not bad but it'll test your sweetness threshold. jeffc666 (1886), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Feb 21, 2004 Sparkling clear amber with a fizzy quickly diminishing off-white head. The aroma is sweet and wonderful: very fruity (orange) with some smoke and alcohol. The flavor is sweet all around with a big amount of malt dominating everything. The smoke and fruit are here in spades along with some medicine qualties. The alcohol is bg and bold in this brew. The body is full and syrupy with a good amount of alcohol burn. This is the weakest Eisbock I have had. This ber is just a shadow compared to the other Eisbock brewed by this same brewer, which is truly a masterpiece of the style. blank (998), Washington, Washington DC, USA Feb 19, 2004 very little head, rich copper color, with lots of tiny bubbles. Thick sweet heavy flavor with a lot of alcohol. A descent strong beer, if a little misguided. Hoss (602), Florida, USA Feb 16, 2004 If alcohol is what you seek, you'll find it here. Nice pour but no head. I did not enjoy this brew as I want flavor not alcohol FlacoAlto (2473), Tucson, Arizona, USA Feb 11, 2004 This beer pours a clear pretty deep gold color. The head is almost non-existant but shows a tan color when roused from the glass. The aroma is dominated by strong malt, the thick malt overwhelms everything. Feels quite thick on the tongue. Surprisingly, given the body, it is not really all that sweet. This is a thick chewy malty brew. The malt character is the show here though. Having said that, this beer is lacking a bit; it is missing some of the malt complexity of a good strong lager. This is a nice clean lager. It is almost syrupy in consistency. In the end a bit dissapointing, needs a bit more character to be really worth drinking. bmadden (3), Roxbury, Massachusetts, USA does not count Feb 9, 2004 Lovely strong aroma, with an excellent palate. The finish warms the body on the coldest night. It's too bad it's such a strong beer; I'd love to drink it more! Spiesy (2333), Global Citizen, Greater London, England Feb 2, 2004 Canned, in Bordeaux, France. A whole lot of powerful beer packed into this one. Big ripe old ethanol menaces around the top of the glass, guarding it from would be drinkers. This is brightly auburn coloured, clear and toxic looking. The aroma could strip paint. In Bordeaux all the beers seemed to be vary strong (with the exception of the mainstream lagers). The flavour is sickly sweet and doused in ethanol. The palate is long, strong and ever so warm. mrkimchee (1414), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 29, 2004 strong beer tasting '04: deep amber, small head. butterscotch, hard candy and alcohol on the nose. flavour starts out nicely with a mix of dried fruit - cherries, raisin, date, cranberry. then goes kind of funky with a pet food kind of taste. not bad overall, though.
