Commercial Description:
This world-famous beer has the character and richness to stand in for fine sherry or port. Just the right degree of sweetness - never cloying; wonderfully aromatic and warming. EKU 28 is the one whenever something good and strong is needed.

This is a pleasant beer. Light red color with a head that only lasts for seconds. Light aroma with carmel and some malt. Flavor has a little alcohol, more carmel, and the standard bock flavor of malt. Very smooth and easy to drink. The alcohol is hidden well. A low key beer that doesn’t hit hard in any way but is great for slow sipping.

Served in a proper EKU Snifter at Academie de la Biere in Paris. Aroma is sweet of dry fruits and maybe some raspberries with alcohol. Clear amber body with a small head that disappears soon after pouring. Tastes a lot like the Samichlaus I had recently. Drinks a bit like a liquor with a kind of syrupy feel and noticeable alcohol in the taste and stomach, but it is pretty good overall. Not something that you could or would want to drink a lot of.

Bottle. Rich amber color with a quickly dissapating off-white head. Slight alcohol and caramel aroma. Caramel and plum flavors - rich but no depth. Adjuncts and alcohol.

Aroma of caramel and chocolate malts and some alcohol. Quite above expections, I have to admit. Clear, amber coloured beer with an off-white, not-lasting head. Taste is sweet and more bitter towards the finish. caramel and chocolate. Tons of wodka. Sticky. Taste is unbalanced.

Yikes. So a beer really can be too strong. Who knew. Pours a bright orange/amber with virtually no head. Aroma is strong malt and alcohol. Medium-bodied an very syrupy. Kind of tastes like a cross between a barley wine and malt liquor. Finish is syrupy sweet malt and caramel. This beer is definitely strong enough for me to be feeling the effects after one bottle. You definitely have to sip this one, but unfortunately this beer is not really good enough to be worth that much trouble.

Clear copper body topped by a short-lived beige head. Sweet alcohol on the nose. Taste is whisky-kind-of-malt wrapped in brown sugar with a few drops of vanilla to hold it up together. As the beer warms up, some berries flavours and a pleasant woody (cedar) flavour sneak in. Hop character is non-existent. All that would be fine if it wasn’t for the crushing alcohol presence and cloying sweetness. EKU 2.1

Cognac aroma, copper colour, tiny cream head. Tastes like Single Malt, well balanced, smooth for 11%. Boldly assertive!

Rating this back-to-back with Eggenberg Urbock, I realized two things: 1. the EKU 28 tastes like a vodka shot; 2. After drinking two beers of more than 9% abv, I'm thinking of taking a long nap. But before I go, I should say something about the beer...it's amber and smells of sweetness and alcohol. The taste is cloying sweetness and massive alcohol burn. If I wanted to sip something harsh, I'd be drinking Johnny Walker Red!
