Aroma of dried fruit, raisins,Malt, slight brandy. Flavor is big caramel, toffee, lots of residual sweetness. Syrupy mouthfeel. Very strong, high alcohol. Even a newbie can detect the strength of the German version of a BarleyWine! dkachur (2421), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 26, 2008 Bottle. Pours apple juice colored w/ a thin white head. Aroma is, oddly, scotch whisky. Taste is all kinds of malty, toffee, raisin, caramel, et cetera, et cetera. No hops to speak of. A little on the overly sweet side, but still good.

Thick (good) Cloying (not good) overly sweet sugars, full of burning alcohol at the finish. Poorly crafted, I say; Unbalanced; Unhappy! Crit (2409), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada

Sweet malty aroma with subtle alcohol notes and a maple syrup character. Sweet strong malt flavor with maple syrup and caramel notes and very light alcohol notes. Thick and chewy on the palate with tingling on the tongue. Full bodied and warming. Boutip (2390), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 10, 2006 Can courtesy of Piscator34: Poured a deep burgundy color beer with a small off-white foamy head with OK retention. Aroma of sweet cookie dough with some dry plums was very interesting and enjoyable. Some sweet cookie malt with some plums and dry figs characteristics, which made this very enjoyable, also dominated taste. Body is a bit light and alcohol was not overly pronounced. Not exactly sure why this is getting such low ratings – I though it was a well craft eisbock. BrewDad (2370), Olympia, Washington, USA

A dark copper colored brew. Had a very sweet flavor with a light spiciness. The malt characteristics where very complex and the alcohol was very high. This is a cold winters night drinking brew.

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Feb 2, 2004 Canned, in Bordeaux, France. A whole lot of powerful beer packed into this one. Big ripe old ethanol menaces around the top of the glass, guarding it from would be drinkers. This is brightly auburn coloured, clear and toxic looking. The aroma could strip paint. In Bordeaux all the beers seemed to be vary strong (with the exception of the mainstream lagers). The flavour is sickly sweet and doused in ethanol. The palate is long, strong and ever so warm.
