In the nose, the high ABV is fairly well-hidden. Very fruity with notes of fuzzy and tropical fruit. Also, honey, dates and pineapple.
The flavor is very malty, sweet and fruity. Again, the high ABV is well-hidden under notes of smoke, vanilla, dates and pineapple. Syrupy mouthfeel. Lively carbonation. The hops and alcohol don't quite balance this big brew out. Dry, alcoholic finish. Throughout, the malt is a touch cloying. Still a very nice brew... as I once again go against the grain. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 31, 2004 Yellow-creamy head for some secs, (and than only for the frozen glass); orange-foxy beer, clear. Quite sweet nose, extremely concentrated grainy smell, alcohol there but not over-obvious, a touch nutty; peppery-vinous finish. Unexpectedly bitter initial taste, some hoppiness even. Monstrous malt lurking underneath, cookie and very (hazel)nutty. There’s also a ever more presence of almonds, turning nearly marzipan flavour. Bitterish-burnt rich malty finish. Syrupy, very slick mouthfeel, very well-bodied, of course. Alcohol in the aftertaste, some adstringency and dry-out effect. A monster of a beer, but not a monstrous beer, if you get the diff’. It’s been always too sweet and too roaste for my preference - but no discussion about it being something special. ThomasE (5178), Copenhagen, Denmark

Pours candy apple red with an initial white head that quickly dissipates.Smell is of sweet cherries, sugar, some metallic elemenst and mellow alcohol. Taste is of some sweet sugar and malt with warming alchol. Not nearly as cloying as a fresh sample. Finish is light and sweet. The alcohol in this is well masked. pivnizub (5051), Bochum, Porúří, Germany
