| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 31, 2002 This was very syrupy and extremely strong. Almost like drinking straight whiskey. Stay clear if you are of the faint of heart. Frank (1071), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 4, 2003 Updated: Aug 26, 2004EKU 28 was high-gravity before high-gravity was cool. Appetizing honey color. Almost completely headless as would be expected for the style (the freezing process decreases carbonation). Still, the palate is far from lifeless--thick, slippery, and smooth. It complements the malty sweetness brilliantly. The depth of flavor is breath-taking and it changes with each sip. Molasses, honey, raisin, cherry, clove, raw sugar, plum, even a bit of chocolate all make themselves known with no one flavor taking over. Leaves a lip-smacking stickiness in the mouth after each taste. It's all so very lovely. The alcohol here is not overdone. It helps contrast the sweetness, adding a much needed dryness to the overall presenationt. I savored every drop. desurfer (1068), Pinellas Park, Florida, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Feb 28, 2005 Pours a clear caramel amber with no head. Aroma is super alcoholic, very sweet. Flavor isn’t as alcoholic as the aroma made me guess; there is little carbonation, and it’s mostly caramel sweetness that takes over. Rather one-dimensional. M0RHI (1067), Luxembourg, Luxembourg
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 5, 2007 Bottle. Pours very slightly hazy ambery gold, thin off-white head. Nose is sweet and some plummy tones, stale wet wood, some glace cherries. Mouth is some plummy tones with a spirit burn as you swallow. Sweet and coating on the way down. Strength present. Alright, could be a lot better. Cobra (1066), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 2, 2003 11.2 oz. brown bottle. Best before Jan 02, 2004. Poured out a deep copper color, with no head to speak of, but a slight lacing around the rim of the glass. Aromas are strongly of malts, with a slight candi sugar sweetness in it as well. Slight aroma of hops, nothing too noticeable though. Tasted thick & chewy, like an oatmeal stout almost. Surprizing for a beer of this ABV. Sweet, coats the tongue with a syrup-like consistency. Finishes sweet & strong, with the alcohol making an appearance at the end. rustychiles (1058), Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 10, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a nice orangeish yellow color with a little creamy head. Smells like Malt and sugar. This beer has a nice underlying sweetness that masks it’s 11%abv quite well. A very pleasant Eisbock indeed. :)
