Commercial Description:
This world-famous beer has the character and richness to stand in for fine sherry or port. Just the right degree of sweetness - never cloying; wonderfully aromatic and warming. EKU 28 is the one whenever something good and strong is needed.

bottle. Dark amber. Medium white head, disinegrates into lacing. Malty aroma. Super malty sweet taste, some hops. Slight alcohol burn. Tons better than Anheuser World Select. I love Eisbocks

Amber colour. Sweet, malty, alcoholic, warming, vinous and full-bodied (almost oily!). Shares features with Samichlaus but is slightly more drinkable.

Mmmm, very nice. Poured with a huge, thick, foamy, light tan head. Very little lace. Great dark copperish amber color. Aroma is very intense malty, caramel, toffee, and yeasty. Flavor is the same. Finish is yeasty bitter at first then fading to above sweet flavors. A hint of the big alcohol, but not bad. Super rich; would only want one or two. Having this one with a bowl of spicy congee and it’s a perfect match. They have it a Bodega downtown La Crosse too.

0.33 l bottle from a Merkur in Graz. Well, my first Eisbock, finally something to try my snifter on. Poured very nice orange-red body with medium pale orange head that went down fast with impressive sound. Interestingly, very weak aroma, malty, alcoholic like a whisky with maybe even some plums or similar dark fruits on the threshold of imagination. Flavor let’s say full bodied, bitter in very strange way, muled whiskey and brandy kind of alcoholic, pretty simple, yet it tends to show some new components. I’ve felt also bit of oak, caramel and some spices. In the finish pretty much of the flavor is felt, but with some sweetness rounding it all. Very warming, maybe I should’ve kept it until the weekend and share with friends, when we will sleep on a mountain in tents at about -20°C :) All in all, not bad indeed, but nothing special, so I expect more from my next Eisbock. Definitely not an everyday drink.

Clear with a head that disappeared by the time I set the bottle down, with lots of champagne like bubbles. The aroma is really sweet cherry frosting. Flavor is sweet, but not too cloying, very alcoholic with a sweet tobacco like finish.

This beer turned out to be my first eisbock and I’m nearing beer #500. Its just a category I’ve been horribly neglecting for the longest time. Anyhow, here we go, eisbock time! This beer pours a clear copper red color with little head and a slight hint of carbonation, but it quickly would disappear for good. The aroma is pleasant with hops, caramel and vanilla malt, hints of citrus and clove in there. I can see now why people feel this is very wine-like. The taste however leads something to be desired....whats the word i’m looking for here.... BALANCE! The alcohol and citrusy mango flavoring is overly astringent on the palate. Some heavy maple/vanilla syrup in the finish. Very dry finish, but somehow slightly crisp. The alcohol relents a bit after one’s palate becomes numbed by stupidity. Caramel and vanilla are pleasant, but man that alcohol astringency just cannot be forgotten. If they could hide that just slightly, this beer would be nudged significantly higher. Overall an interesting eisbock experience, but I bet I could find something better out there!

'eku' is an australian aboriginal word for a tribal ceremonial delicacy-- it means "ostrich buttocks marinated in sweet yam jelly and fermented in an open pit". ouch. this is whiskey and honey with a head. i'm a fan of strong beers, and this one is a marvel of biology: one must admire the sheer voracious force of frenetic pirannah yeasts devouring fat, sweet virgin pumpernickle malts, leaving jagged bones of alcohol behind-- and yet there's ever more corpulent plums and oranges in noble rot yet to be consumed. it's prodigioush. ish my besh frend inna hole world. hic. alcohol is our very good friend, never forget that-- don't abuse it, but let it rake gently through your consciousness like a woman's light delicate fingers through your hair. one night in the recent past, however, i had a st. bernardus abt 12, and in the sublime buzz that followed that pinnacle libation, i erred fatuously in thinking that this evil sticky roach-bait would extend the rapture. by contrast, the eku was a sumo wrestler next to ms. america: it seemed bloated, crude and boorish. (once i mixed an eku 28 with a mojo IPA and created a reasonable facsimile of arrogant bastard!) so you decide. i think it's, well, spesssshal... (best rating ever of this beer is silktorks--check it out).
