| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 1, 2003 A nice dark orange/amber color with little head that is gone within a minutre or so starts off this beer. I have to agree with Oakes's Samichlaus reference, as the aroma is very similar. However, not quite as strong! Flavor is also "samichlaus-esque"...again not quite as strong. really, I think this beer has been treated harshly...the flavor is far from undrinkable, in my opinion. Not the best brew...but it has the potential to age very well, I think! Heathen (810), Riverside, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Jul 5, 2008 THOUGHTS: Had been waiting to try this beer for years, but couldn’t see paying over $20 for a 6 pack , but I finally found a single bottle for sale. It’s mostly just a bunch of alcohol, but it’s also full of flavors, so it’s not that bad, but not great either. A lot like Samichlaus, just not as good. Very liquor-like.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark amber with small to medium body particles of a thin density and an average-sized, off white head that mostly lasted and left good lacing. The aroma was heavy caramel, lost of alcohol, citrus, some fruitiness and whiskey notes. The initial flavor was moderately sweet; while the finish was heavily sweet and light to moderately bitter with an average duration. There was whiskey, caramel malt, citrus and then a little metallic hops with slight smoke too. The medium to full body was oily and a little syrupy with fizzy carbonation and a moderate to heavy alcoholic finish. cb (809), Wheat Ridge, Colorado, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 15, 2006 Slighty nutty and a bit spicey with loads of caramel and toffee in the nose; dissipating head; licorice and brown sugar, almost cloying sweetness; tart and woody finish; dead, viscous body. hellomynameis (794), Mayer, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 12, 2006 This was a very strange dark orange/red colour. It poured a tall head but it soon collapsed on itself. It almost seems like a thick cider. Sweet, sweet aroma with some caramel and toffee. The flavour is very sweet and sticking with some honey like flavours, caramel, and a drying alcohol like finish. yalnikim (785), Wellington, New Zealand
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 22, 2007 Tasted 21/12/2007. 330ml bottle from Regionals. Brilliant, lambent dark rose-gold - tending amber - with a creamy white head. Bready, milled-grain malt character dominates the first nose. On closer inspection there is a rose-like perfumy character. That carries through into the mouth, where toffee and a strong alcohol character, with a slight burn, dominates. Sweet. A little alcohol spice. No noticeable hop character, as you’d expect, but it could do with some. Too strong and cloying for me too enjoy. The bready character from the nose, comes through as a cereal note on the palate. beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 27, 2005 Bottle at Firkin’s, Libertyville, IL. Clear amber hued having a rapidly diminishing large off-white head with excellent lacing. Heady sweet malt aroma with hints of toffee and fruits. Full-bodied with heavy consistency of maple syrup. Starts with smooth creamy malt flavor with slight hop and finishes thickly with slight cloying sweet flavor with some hop touches. Definite alcoholic warmth. A tasty drinkable eisbock beer that’s best enjoyed without food. Dough77 (779), Aurora, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 29, 2005 Pour is very pretty golden amber. Some white around the brim of the glass, but not real head. Nose is very sweet with raisins, caramel, malts, and alcohol. First sip is quite nice and smooth. Tastes of even more raisins, very very sweet, big on the honey, with some really big malt notes, all while staying very sweet. Reminded me of one of the JW Lee brews I’ve had earlier, cant place which one though.
