Commercial Description:
This world-famous beer has the character and richness to stand in for fine sherry or port. Just the right degree of sweetness - never cloying; wonderfully aromatic and warming. EKU 28 is the one whenever something good and strong is needed.

Poured a golden amber with a sparce head. Aroma was sweet and malty with some apples thrown in. Very malty sweet with more apples and a good amount of alcohol warming. The sweetness covers the alcohol taste though. Full-bodied.

Bottle shared by joebrew, pours a clear amber brew with a fast dissolving white head that leaves behind a swirling film top and some bottles on side. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, some toffee, plums and plenty of alcohol. Taste is slick/oily, medium to full bodied, with lots of sugary character of molasses, caramel syrup and corn syrup. Finish is very alcoholic strong and over the top sweet. I remember trying this back when I was 18 and was told this was the strongest beer ever made. Being nieve at the time thinking Pabst Blue Ribbon was what beer was supposed to taste like, I did not think much of EKU 28. Happy to say I know better today.

Bottle. Clear medium amber pour with just a hint of red to it. Thin layer of beige head. Strong aroma of freshly cut wheat, pears, plums, toffee, and a hint of brandy. First impression in the mouth is heavy, malty, boozy sweetness. More big hits of dark fruit and alcohol followed. This became thicker and more cloying as it wamed. Not the most complex brew, but was definitely palatable and warming.

Bottle (330ml) - best before 21-10-07. Via trade with Biegaman - thanks once again, Jan. Beautiful clear bronze pour with a decent frothy-creamy lasting beige head. Woody sweet toasted malt aroma, light bitter herbal hops, mulchy yeast, developed a strong peach-pit fruit character as it warmed, lovely character, hardly any alcohol noticed. Taste is very fruity - peach, apricot and pineapple - woody, resiny malt with more alcohol and less hop bitterness in the finish than the aroma would indicate - not 11% boozy, but you know it’s there. Slightly thin body, with a slick, astringent, alcoholic mouthfeel and a medium-long mild linger, decent complexity, you can tell this is not a particularly young beer - I like that! Compares quite favorably to Kulmbacher’s other Eisbock.

Slightly dark colour, malt aroma. Bit of crowning white head. Little bitterness.I found this more malty drinkable than the Austrian eisbocks, although still an egg yolk taste in it. Surprisingly high alcohol content that was well hidden. Thanks Biegaman.

You guys will hate me but for me this is extreme expl of European strong lager. Despite it’s potency it did had nice head that was killed fast by alc. Sweet malty aroma covered alcohol, wow good job. I did not like it but over all I was impressed that such strong beer could be so human.

Bottle dated best before 2007, estimated at about 5 or 6 years old, courtesy of Brewnoser. Dark amber body with a small beige head that fades. Sweet caramel aroma, sugars and caramel malt. Sweet caramel malt flavour is lovely with a dry not in the finish. Average palate is smooth. (3+) Quite nice, this had stood up marvelously if its that old! Many thanks for the chance to try this, it was quite pleasant. Amazed that this is rated so low.

Medium orange-gold color, medium head. A medium bodied beer. Malty and slightly sweet. Taste is more like a sherry or port than a beer, but EKU 28 retains its beer character. Nice hop bite. Big bold beer. Mouthfeel is full and expansive. Finish is clean and smooth. Noticeable alcohol bite (11%). Aftertaste is malty and slightly sweet. Slight oily texture to this beer. A bit overpowering.
