Amber apricot in color with thin to no head. Decent carbonation for an eisbock. Aroma of fruit laced sherry with mouthfeel to match. A solid malty berriness with very warming alcohol. A good desert or cold night brew.

Clear, deep amber appearance with a large tan head that faded quickly and left modest lacing. Toffeeish, sweet malt and ripe fruit aroma. Woodsy/earthy taste mingles with the alcohol, giving it a dessert wine-like edge. Sweetness linger through to the finish, with the alcohol dominating the aftertaste.

Bottle...clear amber pour with no head. Aroma of raisins and macerated pit fruit (Apricots, peaches, etc,,,) Clean alcoholic flavor with those same flavors as the nose, raisins and pit fruit. Also a little smokiness noted.

May 19, 2007 Re-rate
Musy, stewed fruit and malt aroma has an edge of cherry liquer to it. The body is a transparent orange/amber and the thumb thick white, diminishes rapidly. Dry fore is malt laden with fruit notes on the edges and a sort of toasty, spent grainy flavor. Alcohol and very faint maple and caramel notes make up the finish. I really hated this the first time I had it a year or so ago, but I find it much more palatable. I’ve also learned that it isn’t really an Eisbock just a very strong lager.
Original Rating: 2.4
I have only had a few eisbocks, but this is the first I did not like. Way too present alcohol made it undrinkable. And what flavors there are a kinda malt/caramel sweetness are buried in that alcohol. If there was an Avery label on this I’d totally believe it was an Avery beer.

Malty sweet aroma with choclatey undertones. Taste was same, well rounded, and nicely hid the huge alcohol (contrary to what others have found). Minimal aftertaste, also. (12oz/$3)

$2.99 at Country Club Liquors; Caramelly, malty nose with some peachiness; copper with a beige ring of bubbles around the edge; flavor tastes like a whiskey mixed with berries, very unusual, like nothing else I’VE tasted,

Being this my first eisbock style of beer, I will rate it on a hedonistic scale rather than by style. The aroma was very sweet smelling, almost like a sherry or a bourbon. There was also some cherries there and the obvious maltiness there. The appearance is a dark amber color, creamy looking head which melted pretty quickly. Mouthfeel is thick (thought not cloying) and slightly syrupy. Flavors had a prominent alcohol bite to it, which was pretty nice actually. There was also a honey sweetness present, some light fruit like apples or pears and a bit woodyness there too. Overall, this is a one-shot deal. You’d be hard pressed to drink more than one of these, so this is a winter time sipper if there ever was one. I did like the sweetness and the alcohol bite. Cozy up to a fire, your honey, a good movie and a good night would sure to had.
