The color is nut brown and it has a fine bubbly orange head, though quite fast disappearing. The flavor is strong too. It is rather malt sweet with notes of caramel, sirup, wood, yeast, and nuts while the alcohol makes the background. It ends on a slight bitterness - not quite enough to balance the sweetness. In the aftertaste it is alcohol and sirup that lingers. An OK beer but just a bit cloying with the sweet sirupy flavors. Thanks to Alex (fiulijn) for trading this one with me. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 22, 2004 I've been hanging on to this bottle a long time, last from a 6-pack bought over 13 months ago...time to send this one home...
Clear, bold amber hue, fiercely buzzing foam on top that evaporates instantly into nothingness...aroma bespeaks of alcohol before you even try to smell it, but let's give it a close sniff anyway...cherries, booze, brandy, cognac, cough syrup, Jagemeister, brilliantly burnished, all sweetness and liquory, and still appealing.
Taste: huge impact on the palate, a jolt of cherry schnapps, some buzzing hops, thick, sweet malt, and hot alcohol feel. Fills the palate fully, sending this sharp, bright sensation around all the corners of the senses.
Defies most common notions of "what is beer", that's for sure.
Body is full, finish is long and strong, character is memorable all the way. Not a beer I'd turn to often, and not quite halfway into it, the booze is now in full control, starting to worm into the brain and begin the process of drunkening...nighty-night, and goodbye, yaddy-dee, dee, dee, dee-dah...lovely nightcap, or a cudgel, ... jobyone (234), Charlotte, USA

Flavor is strong malt sweetness. Lots of Alcohol. I like it but a half bottle would be plenty. Good for an after dinner drink. v8powered (66), , Nevada, USA

Good flavor overall. Not sure ehy it is rated so low for such a tasty beer. KyotoLefty (1440), Kyoto, Japan
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 25, 2009 Aroma of honey, caramel, bread, slightly winey, with some dark fruit. Huge, caramel, honey flavor with cookies and cake. Sweet and hot. Big, thick palate. Smooth and hot. A fun beer when taken in moderation. Better with some age.
