Commercial Description:
This world-famous beer has the character and richness to stand in for fine sherry or port. Just the right degree of sweetness - never cloying; wonderfully aromatic and warming. EKU 28 is the one whenever something good and strong is needed.

Nice caramel hoppy aroma. ALcohol overpowers the body. Finishes slightly sweet.

'eku' is an australian aboriginal word for a tribal ceremonial delicacy-- it means "ostrich buttocks marinated in sweet yam jelly and fermented in an open pit". ouch. this is whiskey and honey with a head. i'm a fan of strong beers, and this one is a marvel of biology: one must admire the sheer voracious force of frenetic pirannah yeasts devouring fat, sweet virgin pumpernickle malts, leaving jagged bones of alcohol behind-- and yet there's ever more corpulent plums and oranges in noble rot yet to be consumed. it's prodigioush. ish my besh frend inna hole world. hic. alcohol is our very good friend, never forget that-- don't abuse it, but let it rake gently through your consciousness like a woman's light delicate fingers through your hair. one night in the recent past, however, i had a st. bernardus abt 12, and in the sublime buzz that followed that pinnacle libation, i erred fatuously in thinking that this evil sticky roach-bait would extend the rapture. by contrast, the eku was a sumo wrestler next to ms. america: it seemed bloated, crude and boorish. (once i mixed an eku 28 with a mojo IPA and created a reasonable facsimile of arrogant bastard!) so you decide. i think it's, well, spesssshal... (best rating ever of this beer is silktorks--check it out).

Drowning toast in a pool of whisky…Caramel candy is floating around but there isn’t enough to be used as a buoy…A wet log then passes by and allows some dark fruit and sugar to survive and thus stay above the alcohol…

Sparkling clear amber with a fizzy quickly diminishing off-white head. The aroma is sweet and wonderful: very fruity (orange) with some smoke and alcohol. The flavor is sweet all around with a big amount of malt dominating everything. The smoke and fruit are here in spades along with some medicine qualties. The alcohol is bg and bold in this brew. The body is full and syrupy with a good amount of alcohol burn. This is the weakest Eisbock I have had. This ber is just a shadow compared to the other Eisbock brewed by this same brewer, which is truly a masterpiece of the style.

Wow! I had about three more beers I wanted to review tonight, but after this one, that ain't gonna happen. And one of these days I'm gonna find an obscure beer that everyone here *hasn't* tried. Sophisticated looking bottle. The only hints of what lies inside are the "11% Alc" coment on the front and the self-proclaimed comparisons to sherry and port on the back. No date stamp, but I'm sure this beer could last for decades without going bad. Pours a clear amber with a decent head that doesn't last long, but the carbonation does keep a nice ring going along the side of the glass. Smells *really* strong. Very malty smelling with some spice lingering. Tastes of carmel and fruit hanging around with a hint of raisins. The alcohol is quite aparent without being overbaring. It's sweet but not too sweet. Mouthfeel is thick and full leaving an alcohol feel in your mouth. Drinkability suffers a bit in that there is no way a human could have more than one of these a night. This is quite tasty, but *definately* more of a nightcap than I was expecting. I guess I was thinking I would be enjoying a barleywine, but this isn't even close.

Bottle, at No. 5. Dark golden with white head, fully disappearing. No lacings. Aroma very sweet. Flavor first very sweet (fruity), ending in a fine bitterness. Medium body, oily/creamy, the strength is felt.

12oz bottle. Aroma: Sweet lightly toasted malt, caramel, raisins, and some light alcohol. A touch of herbal hops as it warms. Appearance: Deep amber in color and clear. Light bone head is full and foamy with good retention. Good lacing. Flavor: Sweet maltiness with a light toasted note. Caramel, raisins, bread dough. Alcohol comes through strong. Some herbal/spice notes into the finish. Slightly syrupy finish. Palate: Medium-full bodied. Medium carbonation. Overall: ’World class’? Don’t know about that, but this was a good beer. A bit syrupy, but with some nice flavors.

33 cl. Clear copper-orange with a lasting film of creamy foam. Nose of corn, grass and molasses. Flavor is caramel, grain, hay, peppery wood and cherry liqueur. Near-medium body is smooth, alcohol-dried and chest-warming. Give this one a chance; it gets better the further you delve.
