Pours crystal clear amber with a wafer thin white head. Aroma is quite dominated by the 11% ABV, but backed up with a big hit of honey, apricot jam and grape in the nose. Mouthfeel leans a bit to the thin side and somewhat oily. Flavor is one of insulin inducing sweetness!! If you’re not fond of sweet beers this one is not for you. Lots of jammy, honey, molasses sweetness with a pronounced port like finish. A brew like this needs at least 11% to cut through sugar rush! I enjoyed it but it took me close to an hour to finish it due to richness. krisbierjaeger (844), dolores, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 16, 2003 'eku' is an australian aboriginal word for a tribal ceremonial delicacy-- it means "ostrich buttocks marinated in sweet yam jelly and fermented in an open pit". ouch. this is whiskey and honey with a head. i'm a fan of strong beers, and this one is a marvel of biology: one must admire the sheer voracious force of frenetic pirannah yeasts devouring fat, sweet virgin pumpernickle malts, leaving jagged bones of alcohol behind-- and yet there's ever more corpulent plums and oranges in noble rot yet to be consumed. it's prodigioush. ish my besh frend inna hole world. hic. alcohol is our very good friend, never forget that-- don't abuse it, but let it rake gently through your consciousness like a woman's light delicate fingers through your hair. one night in the recent past, however, i had a st. bernardus abt 12, and in the sublime buzz that followed that pinnacle libation, i erred fatuously in thinking that this evil sticky roach-bait would extend the rapture. by contrast, the eku was a sumo wrestler next to ms. america: it seemed bloated, crude and boorish. (once i mixed an eku 28 with a mojo IPA and created a reasonable facsimile of arrogant bastard!) so you decide. i think it's, well, spesssshal... (best rating ever of this beer is silktorks--check it out). shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 19, 2005 Amber color with no head. Aroma is sticky sweet and sugary, with some alcohol. Flavor is well blended. Sweet almost cloying (despite the description) and smooth. Palate is really nice. Clean finish with just a hint of the alcohol presence. lachesis (759), St Idesbald, Belgium
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 17, 2004 Very strong beer with a warmgolden amber color and a X.O. cognac shine. Very strong and alcoholic aroma’s with a hint of Rum soaked fruit and X-Mas pudding Londen style. Nice maly accent and touch of butter caramel. The taste is very rich and warm with notes of dried fruits, butter toffee, caramel, malts and again old X.O cognac. You need to take some time to taste this one. It has a super full taste, it is very complex and it is ending with a strong alcohol burn. It just lacks loads of freshness. chilehead (186), Laguna Niguel, California, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 26, 2005 (Bottle 33 cl) Used to be the world’s strongest brew - now just one of the strongest... Beautiful, deep amber colour, rather small, white head. Delicate almost sherry-like notes, some sweetness and a lightly smoked character reminding me of whisky. Loads of alcohol, but never unpleasant. Great beer indeed. 040899 seamus77 (31), kansas city, Missouri, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 12, 2005 nice fruity-sweet aroma, beautiful deep copper colour, and a thick but shortlasting head. creamy, medium heavy body, a bit hot but not too hot tasting, considering the 11% alcohol level, spicy, and sweet with a slight spiced bitterness to the finish. a pretty good, but not great brew, perhaps something to help warm you up sitting by a fire in the winter. kenb (1101), Oregon, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 19, 2006 12 OZ bottle via LIQUID sOLUTIONS. Pours a crystal clear amber with a large beige head. Aroma is very mellow with mostly just vanilla and toffee and perhaps some fruity melon. Wow this is sweet tasting...cloying...starts with a LOT of molasses, then some cherries, vanilla, raisins, and ends about as sweet as it started. Thin bodied. Some rummy alcohol present in the finish.Moderate to high carbonation. Not bad but would be better with more body and if it was not filtered.
