A touch of herbal hops as it warms. Appearance: Deep amber in color and clear. Light bone head is full and foamy with good retention. Good lacing. Flavor: Sweet maltiness with a light toasted note. Caramel, raisins, bread dough. Alcohol comes through strong. Some herbal/spice notes into the finish. Slightly syrupy finish. Palate: Medium-full bodied. Medium carbonation. Overall: ’World class’? Don’t know about that, but this was a good beer. A bit syrupy, but with some nice flavors. unclemattie (2439), Georgia, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 19, 2006 12 OZ bottle via LIQUID sOLUTIONS. Pours a crystal clear amber with a large beige head. Aroma is very mellow with mostly just vanilla and toffee and perhaps some fruity melon. Wow this is sweet tasting...cloying...starts with a LOT of molasses, then some cherries, vanilla, raisins, and ends about as sweet as it started. Thin bodied. Some rummy alcohol present in the finish.Moderate to high carbonation. Not bad but would be better with more body and if it was not filtered. Skyview (4095), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 1, 2007 Bottle shared by joebrew, pours a clear amber brew with a fast dissolving white head that leaves behind a swirling film top and some bottles on side. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, some toffee, plums and plenty of alcohol. Taste is slick/oily, medium to full bodied, with lots of sugary character of molasses, caramel syrup and corn syrup. Finish is very alcoholic strong and over the top sweet. I remember trying this back when I was 18 and was told this was the strongest beer ever made. Being nieve at the time thinking Pabst Blue Ribbon was what beer was supposed to taste like, I did not think much of EKU 28. Happy to say I know better today. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 1, 2001 Updated: Jun 10, 2004Malty, sugary, alcoholic aroma, some faint notes of golden raisin and light toastiness. Light-medium copper color with a very slight head, seems to be lacking in lace as well. Flavor profile is malty and sweet up front, in fact largely dominated by light brown sugary sweetness but finishes with some mildly pleasant fruity, licorice and alcoholic tones. Smooth and lightly syrupy on the palate, body is undoubtedly very full. It had been a very long time since I'd sampled this beer last, and at the time I remember being completely daunted by the alcohol content alone, much less the huge, fruity maltiness this beer has to offer. I found a 12oz. bottle nigh impossible to finish singlehandedly, in fact, so you could say I didn't like it very much. Since those days I've sampled a couple of beers that were over twice as strong as this one in regards to alcohol content, so EKU 28 seems pretty tame anymore. Not bad, either, for all its one-dimensional charms. Darkover (1316), Columbus, Ohio, USA
