Commercial Description:
This world-famous beer has the character and richness to stand in for fine sherry or port. Just the right degree of sweetness - never cloying; wonderfully aromatic and warming. EKU 28 is the one whenever something good and strong is needed.

Rich aroma of dark fruit - raisins, plums. Dark sherry color (and I thought that before reading the description). The white head flattened immediately. Medium bodied. Creamy carbonation. A bit of heat. Lots of darkish fruits. Indeed it is in the fortified wine range for flavor, though not for alcohol. Consider that this has the alcohol of those high gravity lagers, but notice the quality of the flavors - relatively speaking. The finish is smooth, neither sweet nor dry. Ends with caramel. Very impressive. It could pass for a Belgian ale, with the right presentation. It took some effort: "Malt concentration was doubled or tripled (the exact formula still remains secret), giving the yeasts more fuel for conversion to alcohol. Above all, since stunned yeast can only work very slowly in the presence of high alcohol levels, this beer would have to be given a lot of time. In fact, it had to be fermented in cold storage for an unheard of nine months! " A work of the brewer’s art.

Almost no head. Amber color. Aroma is malty, fruity with light caramel, alcohol and a few nutty and tobacco notes. Flavor is malty too with dark fruits and light alcohol tones, ending in a sweet and moderately spicy finish. Full bodied.

Yadda yadda yadda used to sell it - bla bla bla - could grab a bottle from case in winter and drink it - so what? I really didn't appreciate this despite liking so many beers back when. Good friend I worked with brought me one to see what I would think now. Much more appreciated, but overall it seemed like a monochord symphony all about the malt. Glorious malt. Superb malt. Excellent malt. I know there's more to it, but that's what struck me. Were it to incorporate the slightest of another complimentary element I think it could battle for a very high position.

Another beer in the "love it or hate it" category. Beautiful dark orange color, but poor head. Aroma and taste are strong and sweet with notes of toffee, caramel, orange and, well, alcohol. The aftertaste is full and lasting, and can lead you to believe you just had a sip of brandy wine. Not exactly my idea of "beer", but fascinating, in a sort of way... even if I had to eat something along, in order to be able to finish my bottle...

Pour is a dark orange with a white head Aroma is lots of caramel and brown sugar. Lots of brown sugar in the flavor so much so it takes over the flavor. overall its ok. try an drink it on an empty belly.,as it is very heavy.

Bottle. Clear medium amber pour with just a hint of red to it. Thin layer of beige head. Strong aroma of freshly cut wheat, pears, plums, toffee, and a hint of brandy. First impression in the mouth is heavy, malty, boozy sweetness. More big hits of dark fruit and alcohol followed. This became thicker and more cloying as it wamed. Not the most complex brew, but was definitely palatable and warming.

Pours a clear amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet with caramel, plums, raisons, and alcohol. Flavor starts off pretty light, not what i was expecting at all. Starts off sweet with caramel, raisons, and plums. Pretty strong finish with plenty of alcohol warming. Has a somewhat lingering flavor. Somewhat decent beer.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass. The beer has a nice, healthy aroma featuring some pine and earthy hops, with some dark fruit scents, and a candy malt contrast. The beer has a clear, orange-amber color with a very small, and quickly fading, white head. It tastes mostly bitter and has some sourness, but very little sweetness, with a slight fruit effect; there is definitely a presence of alcohol at the finish. Starts off wet on the palate, but becomes drier at the finish, a lighter mouthfeel, with tingly carbonation. Overall it is a decent beer given the alcohol content and relative inexpensiveness.
