Thick and syrupy, a raisin and plum extravaganza. Still, quiet. Cloying and hard to finish. Bombastic alcohol fire. And after all that, I found it a wonderful experience and would do it again easily! | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 20, 2006 Color is cognac copper. Head is small a and lingers in a tiny ring. Wonderful caramel port nose. Not too sweet. Warm yet there is a slight alcohol bite that creeps out in the flavor after the caramel tones make their presence.
It’s like a mix of Castle Eggbert without the sweetness. Available at Colonial Spirits, Acton MA thornecb (1770), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 21, 2006 Pours a bright ruby red into a snifter. Ten micro head leaves no lacing -- in fact, it tears. Tangy alcohol aromas. Sticky, sweet honey but almost crisp with a medium lasting hop to alcohol burn back to honey finish. Great apertif -- 11.2 oz could probably be shared. raphael (414), Portland, Oregon, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 4, 2007 Wrap-around-the face Madeira cake-drenched-in whiskey snout. Not as revolting as it sounds. Overripe plummy headiness. Muffling cotton wool dabbed in TCP. Nobody can hear you scream. Utterly headless after 2 swigs. Transparent amber stillness. Velvet caramel tangerine sweetness compensates. Nuts and wood. No syrup or burn whatsoever. Cakey but not at all cloying. Beers this potent are often numbingly dull and sugary, but this is a very pleasant exception. One of the best (non-Belgian) big-hitters I’ve encountered. joebrew (608), Farewell Minny; Hello Puyallup, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 23, 2007 Pours a clear dark amber. Nice banana and port nose with hints of smoke as well as butter rum. Nice powerful mouthfeel with hints of toffee, nuts, raisens, chocolate, and pure brown sugar malt sweetness. A very nice beer that is very underappreciated. keidjxz (68), Irvine, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 27, 2009 Amber pour with plenty of Head. Sweet caramel and malt flavor that isn’t too overpowering. Better tasting when consumed directly out of the bottle.
