does not count SoulCrusher (1), Maplewood, Minnesota, USA Jun 21, 2008 Not exactly what I was expecting, however I would buy it again, mainly for variety.
cheapdark (1638), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 16, 2008 ’Brown 11.2 oz bottle into a large long stemmed sniffer. Appears a bit viscous in the pour. Smells of volatile vanilla extract and it reminds me of some helles beers, with their slender candy background olfactory. Color is a combination of clear red, orange and yellow. No perceivable carbonation. First taste is strong alky, like burning, man. Penetrating alky effect almost like hard liquor was added to the brew. Afraid to take another hit. Immense seat kicking back of throat punch. Rather massive in its own way. Way too much for this session brew lover. Exactly what I thought I’d get. Saw it on the shelf and passed it by for the last two years. Probably should have left it there. Causes the hair on the back of my neck to stand up and at times nearly triggers the gag reflex. No doubt this is one of the strongest tasting beers I’ve had. Yea, sherry or port fer sure. Don’t make this yer first beer if you are a recent pale lager convert. Date code 1872, heheh. Rude crude and at times, just plain unenjoyable for a beer. Hot as brandy without the fruity sweetness. S5L3F1T2O5 EKU28 11% Eisbock ’
Pinball (735), Allerød, Denmark Nov 3, 2008 ar:whiskey or cognac, alc, caramel, quite strong and ’raw’
app: amber, small yellow head that quickly goes away. fl:sweet, malty, carmel, syrup, honey, alc.
pal:nice mouthfeel.
overall:too much alc. with not that much to show from it, except sweetness and maltiness. scrizzz (523), kirkland, Washington, USA Oct 31, 2008 tawny colored with a tall flully white head. wood and red fruit aroma in good balance and intensity. Light in body and doesn’t remind me of a concentrated doppelbock at all. the body is very thin and the fruity sweetness reminds me more of a barleywine that goes down much too easy. Milk caramel, oak, and cherry. oldrtybastrd (1793), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA Oct 20, 2008 Shared this one w/ SkyCop32. Picked up at Maruhn Getränke in Darmstadt. Pours a reddish brown. Sweet caramel/roasty aroma. Roast malt/chocolate flavor with a touch of fruit and great hops. JonnyDr (116), , South Yorkshire, England Oct 20, 2008 Updated: Oct 25, 2008Orange-red beer with short lasting white head. Sugary aroma. Starts with orange which leads to barley sugar with an alcoholic finish. Hides alcohol wonderfully and is not over-sweet. Very drinkable but somewhat lacking in bitterness and complexity.
