First of all; I’m very surprised that this 17 years old beer with an ABV of only 5,1% still tastes good, and therefore I chose to enter the rating. It is copper-colored and lightly sparkling, with a huge, dense off-white head that lasts. Caramel, slighlty roasted malt and hints of alcohol and spices in the aroma. The flavor has roasted malt, caramel and some slightly burnt notes towards the slightly sour finish. Thin body. (060714) thebeertourist (2819), Oslo, Norway

Fruity aroma with notes of chocolate combined with fresh bubblegum aroma. Sweet flavours initially, then more acidic fruitiness, dry finish. Medium to light body. Still a highly complex brew and keeping up well after 17 years in the bottle. GarethYoung (1110), Glasgow, Scotland

Aroma is of feet with a sour banananess going on. Taste is similar with a sort of red wine vinigar going on, nice sourness. An excellent refreshing beer, unexpectidly so. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 16, 2005 Pretty aged bottle; there is a question as to where this is brewed. It used to be Deininger Kronenbräu at Hof - at least until the nineties, the brewing of top-fermenting beer was prohibited in the town of Kulmbach. Good head, receding rapidly; hazy dark brown with orange shine. Sweet bread, cookies, Pumpernickel, banana- and other yeastesters. Sourish - wheaty taste, again dark bread, but much drier than the nose. Every sip ends with the same characteristic sourish wheattaste. Flavour not unlike a lemon-cheesecake. Rather well-bodied, typically wheat fills in, despite its characteristic acidity. In the aftertaste, a bit of nuttiness and pears, are the only signs of aging. Very good sample of the style, better than the other Weizenbeers IMO (Berliner not counting). lachesis (759), St Idesbald, Belgium

Color of old redwood (Accajou) with nice red glow and good ivory froth leaving a fine lace. Nose of butterpudding and medicinal balm (Camelfat). Also aroma’s of malts, orange zest, vegetal sageleaf and little sourness in the nose. This beer has a thin mouthfeel with a touch of malts, some pear in red wine, cloves and orange zest. It was a little over the top but I tasted some history, and that makes a lot good. Thank for this bottle Dirk and Leen. wulfhere (217), Billings, Montana, USA

Nice off-white head, although the bubbles are large and indicate poor structure. The head subsided quickly.
Although I swirled the bottle around a bit before drinking, there isn't any hefe in the glass--this bottle has got to be OLD. The color is a nice copper red/brown, similar to a dark amber ale or a barleywine.
The nose sports some phenolics (mild aroma of plastic or BandAid), yeast and carmel.
Initial taste is of mild carmel with a bitter edge
with off-flavor phenolics. Not very tasty, although it might have been once. Hard to tell.
Sad to say I think this one should have been drunk a year or two ago. I just got it a month ago, so God knows how long it's been in transit to my table.
Make sure you get a fresh one if you want to try this beer.
