Bottle 50cl. [ Vintage from the 80’s ].
Clear medium amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white to white - grey head. Aroma is moderate malty, vintage, oxidede malt, resin notes, alcohol notes. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet with a average to long duration. Body is light to medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft. [20090620]

Bottled (some old dusty vintage). Deep amber colour, mediumsized foamy head. Nicely madeiraish notes in the nose. Flavour is raisins, plum and also has some mildl dark fruits and spices. Mild toasted notes in the background too.

Courtesy of Fonefan, this bottle is from Kulminator. The label is in poor shape, but I guess the bottle is from the late 80’es. It is dark brown and it has a creamy head. The aroma is very vinous and has a lot of raisin and other dark fruits. The flavour has sweetness and it is very vinous among others with notes of raisin, dark fruits, roasted malt and spice. I’m surprised that this old beer with a rather low ABV still is so tasty – even though far from the original taste I presume.

A Sim rate (Bottle from the Kulminator): Apparently from the 80’s, I don’t think this beer is necessarily at its best. The aroma is strong and has butterscotch and bitter honey. Smells much like a port but again I think this may be more due to its aged than a true representation of EKU at their best... The flavour is similarly port-like with a muted dunkel flavour. Nothing particularly weiss about it. Palate lets it down - especially for a dunkelweiss.

No#13. (1987). I never thought that a weizen could or should be aged, anyway turned out well. Aroma is of feet with a sour banananess going on. Taste is similar with a sort of red wine vinigar going on, nice sourness. An excellent refreshing beer, unexpectidly so.

Pretty aged bottle; there is a question as to where this is brewed. It used to be Deininger Kronenbräu at Hof - at least until the nineties, the brewing of top-fermenting beer was prohibited in the town of Kulmbach. Good head, receding rapidly; hazy dark brown with orange shine. Sweet bread, cookies, Pumpernickel, banana- and other yeastesters. Sourish - wheaty taste, again dark bread, but much drier than the nose. Every sip ends with the same characteristic sourish wheattaste. Flavour not unlike a lemon-cheesecake. Rather well-bodied, typically wheat fills in, despite its characteristic acidity. In the aftertaste, a bit of nuttiness and pears, are the only signs of aging. Very good sample of the style, better than the other Weizenbeers IMO (Berliner not counting).

Bottled at Kulminator (1989 vintage). First of all; I’m very surprised that this 17 years old beer with an ABV of only 5,1% still tastes good, and therefore I chose to enter the rating. It is copper-colored and lightly sparkling, with a huge, dense off-white head that lasts. Caramel, slighlty roasted malt and hints of alcohol and spices in the aroma. The flavor has roasted malt, caramel and some slightly burnt notes towards the slightly sour finish. Thin body. (060714)
