ratman197 (3135), Arvada, Colorado, USA Mar 15, 2009 Updated: Mar 16, 20091 litre swing top bottle 700-325, 2003 vintage poured a clear reddish brown with a small diminishing amber head. Aromas of dark fruit, sherry, toffee, molasses and light carmel. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of prune, raisins, molasses, toffee and light spice with a smooth lingering bittersweet finish. brewblackhole (1366), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Nov 26, 2004 Rich malt aroma, with berry coming in a second whiffs, Surprising dry friut malt taste, with alcohol backtaste. Alcohol comes on stronger towards end, it also gets a little sweeter JPDIPSO (4862), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Oct 28, 2003 Bottle #700-749. Cloudy brown color with a moderate tan head. Caramel, light malt, fruit cake(oranges, lemons, pineapple, light cherries, and dates), and a touch of alcohol and DMS in the aroma. Thin oily feel. Acidic start with a mild nutty/woody sweetness, along with mild fruit cake flavors in the middle. Very sharp and acidic in the finish. Why put a barley wine in a liter bottle? I'll have to recap and have one snifter at a time. joet (1699), Fulton, California, USA Feb 24, 2002 A thin-headed amber slightly lighter than Humboldt’s barley wine. Very floral, some bubblegum, and some alcohol in the nose. This is a phenomenal aroma. Malty and a tad sour with some lactic feel. Was awesome in the nose and fell apart in the mouth.
