nickd717 (1265), Palo Alto, California, USA May 8, 2009 On tap at Boonville Beer Fest. Dark reddish-brown color with a substantial tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, sweet malt, spices, and some hops. Flavor is sweet caramel malt, cherries, plums, and hop bitterness on the finish. Fairly full on the palate, carbonation medium-low. Lothore (276), California, USA May 2, 2009 A- Pours a mahogany hue with massive amounts of light brown head which takes quite a while to settle.
S- Up front the nose is quite spicy with hints of caramel and dark fruit.
T- Lots of dark fruits up front give way to a wall of sweetness so cloying it is hard to enjoy. There is a big hop backbone but it gets steamrolled by the residual sugars. Alcohol flares up and the end and is very apparent.
M- Mouthfeel is thick with low carbonation.
D- I had a half pint of this and it was interesting but I think the half pint was enough.
