Pours a nice ruddy brown with a whispy tan head that evaporates quickly. Aroma is hoppy and laced with spices. Very broad flavor, but light on the tongue. Sweet and hoppy with a spicy leave and the ping of a higher alcohol content. VERY nice.

12oz bottles shared courtesy of Josh. We did 2 vintages. My notes will reflect the ~2 year old bottle that was far superior to the newer one. Poured a medium and cloudy amber color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of dark fruits, some nuttines, and caramel. Tastes of dark fruits, cherries, caramel, and nutty. Had a lighter tart and sour finish that I really dug. Tart cherries.

Draft at Toronado BW fest. Darker amber pour. Nice citrus hops, caramel malt, some earthy bittering hops also. Somewhat lighter tasting than the IPA, but I think that it’s just more malt to balance all the hops in that one. Pretty solid.

Mildly hoppy aroma, rubyish brown color. Very little head. Spicy flavor, but not overwhelming. Warming all the way down.

[Various vintages, unknown but recent] Poured hazy chestnut color with a small, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of oxidized sherry, caramel malts, dark fruits, nuts, and alcohol. Taste of caramel malts, roast, nuts, tart cherry, and more dried fruits, with a bit of alcohol leading way to a dry finish. The older vintage seemed much more oxidized, and the ratings reflect that, as it had a lot more character than the newer batch. Thanks Josh!

Pours amber with no head. Aromas malty sweet, with some spices. Powerful flavor, very malty, smooth, alcohol blends nicely with the sweetness. Yes this is a very nice American Strong Ale.

On tap at the 2003 Toronado Barleywine Festival: Nice citrus hop aroma. Great slightly sweet flavor. Not really a barley wine but good. I'd like a pint of this!

A strong version of Poppy Jasper maybe? Very good stuff. Spicy nose with hints of sweetness. Cloudy light brown with a small head. Flavor is clean, with smooth bitterness and a slight floral flavor. Finish is also clean. Easy to drink and easy to consume too many...
