BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 30, 2009 Not bad. True to style, tasty, nothing to offend. Commendable. On the critical side, there’s nothing particularly noteworthy about this beer either. It is dark, it has a faint tan head, it smells roasty, it tastes mildly roasty and of dark malt, and it finishes nice and dry in your mouth. There is a touch of coppery metallicness that seems just a touch off, but other than that, this beer was pretty good but not terribly out of the ordinary.
Solid. I’d have it again, but I wouldn’t make a special trip for it. I had it on tap at Elevator. JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Jan 13, 2009 On tap at the brewpub. Pours darkest brown with a medium tan head. Roasty aroma of coffee and malt with some metallic character. Flavor is roasty and sweet with some coffee and chocolate and no trace of the metal that was in the nose. Good stuff. 1010 (206), Marysville, Ohio, USA Oct 10, 2008 Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Taste of roasted malts.
Pint at Elevator Brewing Company Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Sep 29, 2008 Dark brown porter covered by a slice of beige head. Quite aromatic for a dark beer. This is roasty, yes, but mostly cerealic, hinting at a certain oatmeal character. Instead of taking the classic chocolate/coffee route, it heads towards licorice territory. In doing so, it manages to reach out towards a fair fruity background that haunts the finish with its tasty blackberry and dark grape hints. It remains mostly thin, but tasty enough for a brewpub porter. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Sep 17, 2008 Medium to dark brown pour with tight off white head and lace. Astrigent coffee aroma. A large coffee flavor and a bit of a sour. A full bodied beer with good carbonation. Pretty damn good. estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA Aug 1, 2008 Draft at brewpub. Brown body, sweet caramel nose, smallish head. Sweet caramel with toasted notes, mild bitterness. Definitely a brown porter here. Rogueone (506), I F&ckin’ hate those guys from, Ohio, USA May 1, 2008 Sampler @ Brewpub. Deep mahogany pour, very thin white head that disappeared almost immediately. Smells of roasted malts with pretty pungent alcohol aroma. Tastes dry, roasted malts, a little faintly of coffee and finishes a little hoppy for a porter. Decent. StFun (535), Indiana, USA Apr 29, 2008 Hmmm, this is one where, if they could make it consistent, it would be very good. As it is, it is just too hit and miss. Looks like a Coke in the glass, smells of chocolate and earth. Slightly bitter, but most sips alternate between chocolate and roasted barley to bland and watery. Just all over the place, and never hits its stride. Too bad.
