Commercial Description:
You have just picked up a Winner. Dark Horse Lager came from behind in a field of 2,832 to win a BRONZE MEDAL* at the Great American Beer Festival. This very well-balenced, deep copper brown lager has a great lightly hopped character with drinkability that leaves you wanting another.

I had this on-tap at the Huntington Field ball-park in Columbus. While I was pleased to find an alternative to Bud Light, I can’t say this beer is anything to get too excited about. Dark-brown body, light frothy head. Minimal aroma. Flavor was Newcastle-ish; some light toffee roastiness accompanied by wateriness. Not bad, but hardly terrific.

On tap at the Elevatory Brewery and Draught Haus. First try was a part of a pint that was the end of the keg. Pours a light copper color with an initially solid 2 finger head. Aroma is stronger and more complex than the taste, a big pet peeve of mine in beer. Wet dog/floral aroma with pretty boring coffee water taste. Very poundable due to these characteristics. After the first minute the head completely died which made sense since the rest of the beer was very flat and pretty lack luster.

Had on tap at the Claddagh Irish Pub. Dark brown pour. Sweet aroma of brown sugar. Flavor was roasted nuts and bread. Very thin on the mouth. Drinkable but nothing spectacular.

Pours a cloa color with a small head. The nose was of some roastedness and burnt toast. This had a medium mouthfeel with hints of coffee and slight sweetness. It finished off with some hints of hops.Pretty solid.

Draft pint at the Elevator Brewing Company. Pours a dark brown. Very drinkable lager. Only negative is that it doesn’t have great depth.

Objectively speaking: A drinkable dunkel without any fruit character.
I like: Obvious lager character feels clean, though it lends a wateriness all throughout.
I dislike: Watery, dull thin body. Grainy malt profile with plain bread dominance. Limited roast or toast character.

A dark brown pour with a hint of red. An astringent coffee aroma. Flavor of medium coffee and toasted malt with a light bitter. A bit thin and foamy. A pretty good drinker overall.

Very dark porter brown, thin head. Dry, dark malt aroma -- like a toasty brown ale or porter. Medium tanginess, some cola, very light nutty/seedy quality that isn’t rightly a ’sweetness’. Crisp, tangy finish. Only flaw was a little metal on the lips. Medium to medium light body. Very nice. Moderate roast without backlash aftertaste.
