Commercial Description:
Because of the lack of fresh water, India pale ale was a necessity for the 18th century East India traders. Deep and rich with a distinct floral essence.

Faint aroma for an IPA, rather sweet and just not hoppy enough for my liking. Quite a smooth beer, again, unlike an IPA should be. Seems to have too much of a sweet, lemony feel to it.

More of an American Pale than an IPA. Pours a nice golden brown. Hoppy, maybe slightly floral aroma. Some earthy bitterness in the finish.

attractive and swanky old downtown brewpub, cute help and overpriced ales. when the commercial discription says something essentially meaningless like: "deep and rich with a distinct floral essence..." (which they do), you can be sure it's gonna be a weenie conservative beer since they were obviously afraid to use that dreaded word "bitter". this one sets up with a fine copper color and a thin wash of maintanence head. there was decent hop in the aroma, evident even in a bar among smokers, but little of that hop translated to the flavor, which showed none of the fortitude of a real IPA. good carbonation and caramel honey light sweetness, clean grains, tasty but thin, a tiny braille-like bump of hops... then you swallow and it's over, no finish, no lingering bitterness, no souvenir, no daring, no ambition, and certainly no chance of surviving the slow boat to india.

I think IPA is a misnomer for this one. I wasn't impressed. Weakly hopped, I call it more of a pale ale, except there wasn't enough malt here to back it up. While the favor wasn't bad at all, it was far from memorable.
