Huh. I love rye beer, but this one was a bit disappointing. A little thin and watery, not much head, a touch metallic in flavor, none of the high hoppiness, chalky mouthfeel, or flavor I’ve come to associate with rye beers. Just sort of OK... I had this on-tap at Bodega.

Sample at the North Market Microbrew Festival on 09/12/2009 (happy 29th berfday to me). Pours a copper color with a medium beige head. Bready malt aroma with some banana and a bit of citrus hop. Huge bready flavor with banana and a bitter grassy hop finish. Not sure where the banana is coming from, but it definitely does not belong in a beer like this and keeps it from being anything better than average.

Sample at the North Market Microbrew Festival on 09/12/2009. This brew is a clear dark amber color with a medium thin off-white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Bready malt and rye in the nose. Medium body with flavors of grainy malt, mild hops and subtle rye. The finish is hoppy up front with a short rye and malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Draft at Elevator. Poured clear dark copper hue with an average frothy white head that lasted and had excellent lacing. Moderate earthy rye and small malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Moderate earthy bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable brew.
