Commercial Description:
Pasteurised bottle. Also available on keg as Old Smoothie Mild.
NOTE: Ratings for the cask version should not be posted here; it has a separate listing.
A traditional dark mild at 3.6% abv. It has many CAMRA awards to its name and is a well known brand in the free trade. The beer is well balanced with a full roast flavour. The use of Crystal malt and Roast Barley give a deep underlying characteristic flavour, which is balanced with Fuggles hops as the sole variety.

Bottle@Proeflokaal. Malty and light roasted aroma. Very dark brown color, beige head, good lace. Light malty, light roasted, hints of laurel and burnt twigs. Bit watery but what do you expect with only 3.6% ABV.

Bottled. Deep dark brown color. Malt and a hint of laurel in the soft nose. Malty sweet flavor with licorice and apple syrup. Tasty, although watery mild. Likeable.

Dec, 2002 From this fifth generation family owned East Anglian small brewery comes this award winning traditional dark mild. A good woody nose with a hint of dark fruits, and a wonderfully smooth but full flavoured palate with a gentle sweetness to offset the roasty, nutty flavours, and a zippy touch of iced lemon tea to clean the mouth. A very refreshing and fulsome brew. [3.0]

Rummaging in the BHS selection bucket again. Nose roasted but sweetly chocolatey, with vanilla and oak aplenty. Virtually pitch and heaped with beige froth. Faint bonfire and coffee smokiness, grain and tobacco. Aftertaste sweet, lingering, mealy and milky, but I like it. Characterful, stouty, schwarzbier-like mild of the kind you could drink by the bucketload all evening without falling over.
