| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 23, 2009 Draught at the brewpub. Pours mahogany with thin beige head. The aroma is very spicy, clove, carob, varnish, some spice I can’t exactly place, and noticeable alcohol. The flavor is caramel, spicy yeast, clove, allspice, pepper, and very herbal hops. the finish is a little boozy. I am unimpressed. CharlesDarwin (1845), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA

Aroma puts off a subtle toast and chewy caramel note, flushed out with some deeper alcohol and yeast character. Subtle, but nice. Pours a deep clear coconut-husk and mahogany brown, with an orangish fringe and a good finger of mocha. Flavors are rich here, but remain subtle. There’s a good hand of mixed, toasted nuts, good fruit-heavy toast, and some chewy breakfast cereals. A nice fresh bite of 60% cocoa walks in for the finish. Yet dry and balanced with alcohol. Doesn’t taste particularly strong though. It’s a decent drinker. FROTHINGSLOSH (2010), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 6, 2008 Sampled on draft at the brewery this beer poured a dark black color with a small tan head. The aroma was dry roasty malts. The flavor was dryish, roasty and malty with a light fruity hop undertone, a bit of coffee and a long roasty malt finish. Decent.
