Blom (408), Odense, Denmark Mar 21, 2008 Black with a huge grey-yellow head. The aroma makes you wanna grow an Hercule moustache (too few of those these days...): sligtly burned with a lot of mocca-notes. The flavours are dark chocolate, coffee, liquorice and a lot of berries.
cbkschubert (1605), Rattlesnake Country, Arizona, USA Sep 29, 2008 <33 cl bottle from Plaza Liquors - Pours a brown color with a large light tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma and flavor is toasted malt, light chocolate, and esters. Medium body. Smooth palate. A nice beer. cbeers21 (408), Miami, Florida, USA Sep 28, 2008 Brown black with nice lasting sparkling head. Coffee and espresso notes are evident both on taste and aroma. Deep woodsy pine touches are there as well. While this brew dabbles in compexity and layere texture it remains pretty straightforward, and that is a good thing. A resonant bittering echo is all that remaines form this delightfully lightly boozy smokey beer. Decievingly drinkable. Borgen (15), Denmark Sep 24, 2008 NIce black/darkbrown apperance with a frothy withe head. Strong taste which last for a long time in the mouth. Tasted it for the first time in a little coucine in Bruxelles to a fantastic lovaal belgian dish. Then found it in a beer shop in denmark - I had to buy it. The_Epeeist (976), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 20, 2008 33 cl bottle, 2005? Dark brown with a sudsy beige head. Nose is dark roast, dark chocolate and tar. Rather thin, almost watery and slightly flat. Taste is Baker’s chocolate, licorice and chalk with an earthy, club soda finish. Likely a long time on the shelf but i’m still surprised this is an Imperial. fata2683 (178), APO, New York, USA Sep 16, 2008 Bottle from a shop in Liege. Pours dark brown with a nice sized beige head. Smells yeast and banana/clove like(almost like a weissen, strange) you start to pick up hints of alcohol in the nose as it warms. Taste is initially slightly sweet with a light mouthfeel that gives way to a nice burnt carmel and bitter finish that lingers. I almost get a cannibis aftertaste, from the hops I’m sure but it is fresh and lovely. Carbonation is moderate and works well with this stout. I’m just noticing the 9 percent on the label and it’s really suprising. Not a trace of alcohol even as it warms. Excellent lacing and a beautiful beer! I love the tiny flip top bottle I think it really gives this beer attitude coming out of the gate. Its like a small beer with a big punch. This is one of the best stouts Ive had.
