Commercial Description:
Bottle; Unfiltered.
The only self-proclaimed ‘Belgian stout’ – 9% by volume – named after famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirrot and considered a World Classic.
Made in small batches, then lagered for ten days in German oak casks.
"The Hercule is considered by many to be a classic – very malty, but dry, with a hint of sweetness in the finish, and perfectly hopped. It has a very distinctive and intoxicating spicy aroma of fresh spruce that suddenly, irresistibly, fills the room when the swing-top is released. This unique house character probably derives from the strains of yeast used by the brewery – and possibly from the fermentation in oak – because the beers are made entirely of malt and hops, without any spices or sugar."

Pours a deep dark amber with a large thin-bubbled head with moderate to poor retention. Aroma is to die for! Sweet barleywine-like caramel malting, dark fruits, alcohol, lots of brown sugar, dates, I love it! Tastes fantastic - light smokiness, very very spicy. Alcohol blends very well but is definitely there, along with dark fruits - fig, cherry, date - and a light toasted character with just a touch of diacetyl. Body is oddly thin, but has good carbonation. What a tasty, tasty beer. I wish I had access to this so I could buy it again as it’s such a pleasure to drink. Many thanks to TheCheeseMan for making it possible!

Black with a lasting creamy tan head. Chocolate, dates, figs, wood, vanilla, little caramel. Quite light bodied for an I.S. Dry cocoa bitter end.

Pours inky dark brown with a large tan head that lasts forever. Nose is dates, black currant, smoky wood. Flavor is dry, fruity, and more smoky undertones. Ends dry and clean. Very good.

Pours black with a very large tan head. Very fruity aroma and fairly fruity taste. I am not a big fan of Belgian stouts, but this was not bad. However, I would not get this one again.

Bottle. Complex Aroma of winelike fruits. Flavor of sweet fruits, earthy fruit, some growing roast, bittersweet fruit finish. Light bodied for the style, whether you call it imperial stout, foreign stout, whatever. Dry throughout. Very interesting and a bit odd, I’d categorize it as a Belgian Strong and maybe even an oddball barleywine before really putting the stout label on it. Unique and interesting again, but not really in a way that has me clamoring for more.

The head has a very nice chocolate taste as the beer itself is more bitter. The whole aroma is less complex I expected, the rosted malt flavour is mostly present. A nice experience anyway.
