Commercial Description:
Bottle; Unfiltered.
The only self-proclaimed ‘Belgian stout’ – 9% by volume – named after famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirrot and considered a World Classic.
Made in small batches, then lagered for ten days in German oak casks.
"The Hercule is considered by many to be a classic – very malty, but dry, with a hint of sweetness in the finish, and perfectly hopped. It has a very distinctive and intoxicating spicy aroma of fresh spruce that suddenly, irresistibly, fills the room when the swing-top is released. This unique house character probably derives from the strains of yeast used by the brewery – and possibly from the fermentation in oak – because the beers are made entirely of malt and hops, without any spices or sugar."

Had at Restobiers in Brussels on June 22. Had with my desert course, a mousse based on the beer. Excellent stout. Almost black color, strong notes of cocoa roast, licorice, and dark fruits. The finish lacks the huge bitterness of American RIS, but pairs a sweetness with the roast on the finish. Very nice beer.

Bottle. The swingtop almost blew a hole in the ceiling upon opening, half of the beer gushed out, a pity... Deep dark brown/black beer, beige head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malts, dark fruits, sugar, liquorice. Flavour is soft, sweet, dark fruits and liquorice, ending in a coffee aftertaste, slightly bitter. Could use more body or thickness, but very nice overall.

Style and Glass: Imperial Stout; Snifter ABV, Volume & Calories:9 % in 11.2 fl oz. estimated at 200 C Purchased at: Super Saver Pennington, NJ for $3.00 Aroma: amazing, chocolate, syrup, heather. 10 out of 10. Visuals: beautiful design, deep brown, mostly opaque, thin white head, little lace. 3 out of 5. Taste: unbalanced, mostly malt, little hops, low strength, medium craft. 6 out of 10. Palate: lower quality, smooth texture, quick finish. 3 out of 5. Overall: A real disappointment, more of a brown ale than an imperial stout, not a repeat, not a favorite, little value, medium craft. 15 out of 20.

Bottle shared by alexadad06 at Bengals game. Poured a brown color with a large frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted malty and chocolate aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture. Solid balanced roasted bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Good complex brew.

Brown black with nice lasting sparkling head. Coffee and espresso notes are evident both on taste and aroma. Deep woodsy pine touches are there as well. While this brew dabbles in compexity and layere texture it remains pretty straightforward, and that is a good thing. A resonant bittering echo is all that remaines form this delightfully lightly boozy smokey beer. Decievingly drinkable.
