Aroma is malty, with caramel, vanilla, yeast, raisins and some other sweet fruits. Flavor is much of the same. Caramel, and malts are at the forefront. The raisn notes showed up in the flavor as well. Finishes with a little bit alcohol. A very respectable dopplebock. blank (998), Washington, Washington DC, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 17, 2004 Not labeled as decimator, just the ellicott mills dopplebock (on tap at RFD tasting). Quite dark, but not opaque. Roasty aroma followed by smooth, very caramelized flavor. Decoction mashing is apparent. LordHedgehog (144), Westminster, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 26, 2003 Nice dark beer, with a lovely head. Aroma is dark and stout-ish. The beer has only a hint of the sweetness normally found in a dobbel, and felt more like a cross between a dobbel and a stout. Didn't have the roasted flavor of a stout, but had hints of just about everything else. Chocolate, licorice, berries, you name it. Heavy on malt flavors. A good beer overall. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Dec 19, 2003 Big black beer, with a tan head. Big malt nose, but I also noticed that this growler of DB had diacetyl in the nose and flavor. Don't get me wrong, this was a good beer, but I am sure that I have had this cleaner than this. Big round malt was very chewey. If I get my hands on a better version at some point, I will raise the rating slightly.
