Dec 18, 2004 Black body with creamy tan head, nice lacing. Aroma is medium sweet, caramel, some chocolate, alcohol, light raisin, vanilla. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, some chocolate, coffee, alcohol, cherry, light raisin. Finish has some alcohol burn. Creamy full body, some stickiness.

Apr 13, 2008 on tap-pours a rich tan head that laces and cloudy brown color. Aroma is faint medium malt-molasses, medium fruit. Taste is roasty, medium malt-molasses, medium fruit, barely perceptible earthy hops. Medium body. Mild carbonation.

Nov 13, 2003 This beer rocks!
Pours very dark. Only when held up to bright light does one have the opportunity to behold this beer's handsome, ruby hue. Small, creamy, khaki-colored head with thick, creamy lacework.
The aroma is very malty and full of molasses, dark raisins, plums, figs, dates, caramel and toffee. The flavor is almost like a caramel-filled, chocolate Easter egg.
Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel. The carbonation is pillow soft. Short, fairly dry finish. Excellent, world class beer... especially for maltheads like myself!

Mar 2, 2003 cask (RAF): as dark as the inside of a cow with 200 bullet holes letting blood tainted light seep in at random locations..yeah..salty chocolate, peanut skins, wine, alcohol burning in the nose and some caramel..slight chocolate flavor with walnuts and almonds and sweetness..more subtle chocolate and caramel covered nutes & berries..nice sweet enjoyable doppelbock

Nov 9, 2003 New batch Nov 2003. Deep dark ruby, off white head, lasting lace. Sweet malt, dark candied fruits, grapes, caramel dipped fresh bread, and chocolate. Faint hint of hops at the end, but this is all about the malt. Super smooth, soft carbonation. IMO, rivals Celebrator any day of the week. Really good and worth seeking out if you're in the area. Oh....and has a nice alcohol kick in the pants...in the good way of course...

Dec 19, 2003 Big black beer, with a tan head. Big malt nose, but I also noticed that this growler of DB had diacetyl in the nose and flavor. Don't get me wrong, this was a good beer, but I am sure that I have had this cleaner than this. Big round malt was very chewey. If I get my hands on a better version at some point, I will raise the rating slightly.

Mar 2, 2003 A little lighter in color than a normal doppelbock, but a nice color. Comprised of sweet, chewy malt. Caramel, plum, raisin, nice roasted characteristics. Just a touch of hops and no alcohol. I can see how this won Gold at RAF, if I remember correctly.

Mar 2, 2003 Fresh cold aroma, like a sunny winter morn. . . crisp, clean and delicious. Dark copper brown, with a ring of white head. Creamy flavours with very tasty malts. Very well done for the style.
