Aurelius (2443), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Dec 9, 2006 Tangy, musty sweet aroma. Very sweet and clingy. Off the richter scale for the style -- only so much can be made of malt liquor (see my notes on Rogue Dad’s Little Helper.) If you’d have called this a strong lager and put it into a Soviet Bloc pint bottle, you could have gotten away with it. willblake (1917), Long Branch, New Jersey, USA Dec 10, 2005 12.04.05 Sample from growler at HW open house. Attractive beer is a brilliant golden with surprisingly sturdy head for a beer from jug. Smells like latex gloves, corn, and pressboard paneling. There are also some less appealing aromas. Flavor is basically a smoothed out version of the aroma. Luckily, this beer is relatively free of fusel aromas or flavors, and the malts do seem to come around to a more palateable breadiness as it warms. The carbonation does not seem forced or fizzy, that’s nice. Okay, I could drink it in a pinch. I’m lying. scraff (1612), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Oct 20, 2004 Clear sparkling gold, big creamy white head. Aroma jumps out with fresh sweet corn bread, grains, alcohol, some caramel, with a slight dried fruit note. Very bready and malty, but the hops round this out nicely at the very end. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi dry, fruity, yet malty finish. For malt liquor, job well done. I’d chill and swill with this anytime....
