Ellis Island XXX Stout

Dark brown with a tan head. Aromas of roasted malts and cocoa stand out. Slightly fruity, coffee flavor that seemed a little too thin and watery. Crisp and dry for a stout. Ends with some dark chocolate and some bitterness.

(draft @ Ellis Island Casino and Microbrewery - Las Vegas, NV) Dark brown with a huge amount of tan head. Aroma has a nice amount of coffee and burnt malts with a slight hint of chocolate. Flavor is very rich and roasty with a nice coffee and cream flavor with lots of roasted malts at the finish. A little thin for a stout, but other than that I was really happy with it.

The most flavorful of the beers I sampled at Ellis Island Casino and Brewery in Las Vegas, NV. Like all their beers, you will pay $1 a pint, which is a a nice price for an average, but decent pint of stout. This beer pours to a jet black color, with a creamy white head, and a moderate to soft carbonation. The nose has some mild aromas of chocolate malt, coffee, and light roast. The palate is firm with good dark malt, chocolate, coffee, and mild roasty flavors. This beer finishes with more dark chocolate and coffee up front, then ends slightly bitter, with dark chocolate flavor that lingers. I enjoyed this one, as I did all the beers at Ellis Island. The beers here are average or just a cut above average, but I say average craft brew is better than no craft brew.

Draft at brewery-Off white head on a dark brown body. Once again no aroma. Small roasted malt and coffee flavor on the back end.

Dark brown color. Very simple brew, mild (and Mild), with a lot of caramel and no roasted malt. Inoffensive.

On tap from the brewpub. Tasted during trip to california. Black colour with a weak head. Little roasted aroma. A better taste that the aroma little coffelike but overall a very average stout.

Subdued milk chocolate/coffee/roast malt aroma. Black in color with a big tan head. Very watery and low key with just mild roasted malt notes and the barest hint of coffee and chocolate.

Thick and black. Trace of sourness. Good amount of roasted malt. No dominant flavours. Sweetness in the middle. Moderate finish. Very drinkable (is that like saying "she has a great personality"?). Trifle too cold.
