Commercial Description:
The dark side of the holidays, as treacherous as its paler sister. Brewed with Maris-Otter pale, Weyermann Munich, Castle Aromatic and roasted barley and black malts, with amber Belgian candi sugar added to the kettle. Bittered with German Northern Brewer, finished with Czech Saaz hops and fermented with Belgian Golden Ale yeast.

On tap at the Blind Tiger - NYC. Pours a mahogany brown, with a nicely lacing creamy tan head. Woody aroma. Limited. Flavor is muddy. A messy weird sugar. Not sticky, not dry. Foamy. There’s a rotty, weird floor malt. Musty. Belgian character edges tangerine and soapy. Not much snappiness or fresh crispness. A bit of a let down. Chewy. Meh.

Tap. Brown/hazy pour medium carbonation and heavenly aroma of rich sweet malts and spices. Taste was just as good as the aroma; fig, plum, very deep and complex and warming on the finish. Really enjoyed this one!

Rating #737!

Pours a dark cloudy brownish-black with a pale brown head and some lacing. Light bananas Foster aroma - quite sweet. Light browned banana taste, opening up into fantastic spice, buttery pastry and sweet coconut! Smoky campfire notes as it warms. Creamy thick body, well carbonated. Great stuff - thick, spicy and sweet!

Heavy on candied sugar aroma, darker chocolate coffee flavor like a soft porto (not porter). Well balanced palate with a final bitter touch of hops. Cola like visual.

Draft at Tangletown. Entered as Elysian Brewing Company in the distro info because RateBeer Safe Mode will not accept parentheses, even from the Instant Place Finder. OK. Pours a hazy medium amber, slightly coppery. Thin tan head, dense and moussy but shallow. Plenty of candi sugar on the nose, along with some caramelly malty goodness and just a tiny trailing hint of spice. Body is on the high side of medium, creamy, a bit sticky in spots. Dense and satisfying. Mid-palate shows plenty of caramel, brown bread, candi sugar, and just the faintest hint of darker holiday spicing, though that could be from malt accents. Mild, sticky-sweet finish of moderate duration.

Draft at Tangle town.12.09.08. Hazy brown with a tan head. Roasty nutty brown aroma with earthy yeast and candi sugar. Smooth medium body. Good roasty malt flavors with light candi sugar to balance. Nice spicy yeast, festive finish.

Had on tap at Tangletown. Dark brown, unfiltered appearance. A holiday version of Elysian’s Bete Blanche, I think. Darker in color, malty, caramelly flavor dominates. Not much hop flavor here. Pretty tasty.
