Commercial Description:
A smooth and sturdy stout, made with 10% rolled oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt. The name is referential to the founders of Thebes, warriors who sprang from the earth when the teeth of a slain dragon were sown by Cadmus. Bittered with Chinook; finished with Cascade and Columbus hops.

Bottle. Great aromas of chocolate, roasted chocolate and oats. Rich black color with mahogany head. Good rich chocolate flavors. Nice oats flavors too. Some roasted/burnt coffee. Hops flavors very covered but provide a nice slight bitterness., also some orange peel. Thick creamy mouth feel very warm in the stomach. Really nice beer.

Very dark brown, near black, with dissipating brown ring of head. Bitter chocolate flavor lingers in the finish. Very tastey

22oz. Bottle: Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, and cream. Poured black in color with a small, rocky, brown head that diminished but left a film that lasted throughout. Opaque. Good lacing. Flavor is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of chocolate, roasted malts, hops, coffee, slight burnt malts, vanilla, charcoal, and butterscotch. Medium body. Lightly chalky texture. Soft to average carbonation. Semi-sweet chocolate and roasted malt finish is lightly dry.

(22 oz. bottle via trade with explosivebeer, thanks Brandon!) Pours very dark tobacco brown with about a half finger of brown head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and roast, some molasses. Mouthfeel is medium-full, with a nice bit of oaty smoothness, light carbonation. Fine but well-defined rings and light curtains of lacing inside of snifter. Flavor is roasty and chocolatey, sweet dark and bitter chocolate and coffee. A bit of molasses as it warms. A fine, tasty stout although it seems a bit more like a regular or sweet stout than a foreign.

Roasted oaty maltiness with a dash of coffee flavors to balance it all out. One of the easiest drinking stouts I’ve ever had, a guy could easily drink two or three 22 oz bottles and not realize it until the alcohol hit. Not that I’d know anything about that...
