Commercial Description:
A smooth and sturdy stout, made with 10% rolled oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt. The name is referential to the founders of Thebes, warriors who sprang from the earth when the teeth of a slain dragon were sown by Cadmus. Bittered with Chinook; finished with Cascade and Columbus hops.

pours a dark, oily brown with a thin mocha head. lots of espresso and coffee on the nose along with malted chocolate. flavor is a bit on the smoky side, with notes of milk chocolate and roasted malts, though rolls fresh across the tongue.

Wow! Poured a thick black-brown opaque body with a thin grey-brown head. Nose of chocolate malts and rich, grainy bitter hops. Thick rich vanilla mouth feel. Lush and well balanced. This beer is awesome!

22 oz. bottle pours an opaque black liquid with a light brown head. Has a malty sweet , chocolate aroma with a whiff of alcohol. Medium bodied and very smooth. Has a blackened malt taste with a nicely bitter triple-shot mocha/alcohol finish. The flavors here are bold and straight forward, no surprizes. Whether on tap or in a fresh or aged bottle, this stout never disappoints. A regular in my fridg along side its stout cousin Obsidian.

Bottle from 5000/Larry Pitonka. The pour was pitch black, nice choco-colored head, great retention, very nice lacing. The aroma was wonderful, lactic chocolate notes along with some roasty coffee. The flavor followed the aroma, very well crafted and balanced, the only consolation in watching OSU get man-handled by LSU tonite. Milky chocolate, cocoa, and coffee blends that went together very nicely, semi-sweet finish, but not sweet. Mouthfeel was full, short of sticky, nicely supported by the malts and carbonation both. Thanks, Andre, great stuff!

pour is jet black with a small brown head, excellent lacing. smell is complex, nuts roasting on a fire, bitter-sweet cocoa, a touch of coffee, brown sugar, oatmeal, malt, vanilla hiding in the background. taste is smooth and creamy, milk chocolate, coffee mocha, toasted walnuts, graham crackers, roasted malts, finish is bitter and slightly dry. overall a great beer, hits all the senses just right, i would recommend this to all and would definitely have again.
