Commercial Description:
A smooth and sturdy stout, made with 10% rolled oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt. The name is referential to the founders of Thebes, warriors who sprang from the earth when the teeth of a slain dragon were sown by Cadmus. Bittered with Chinook; finished with Cascade and Columbus hops.

Taste and aroma dominated by chocolate, coffee, and bitter roasted malts. Creamy, full-bodied mouth feel, with a smooth finish. Hop presence is minimal. But this is a great beer, drinkable and enjoyable.

Fantastic! Pours black with dark tan head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate dominate the nose. Roasted flavor with just a touch of chocolate sweetness, slides over the tongue with ease. Smooth creamy finish. I’ll have to have another sometime soon.

Bottles many times and on draft and cask. After having this many times, I am surprised every time how much I really love it. So smooth and complex and delicious. Aroma is sweet and malty with some roasted malts. Flavor is rich and smooth, some chocolate and roasted malts and caramel and molasses. Great sweetness and nice and creamy.

On tap at the Blind Tiger - NYC. Dark pitch black-brown, with a coffee cream head. Light coffee and roast aroma. Oooh. Great caramel, powdered chocolate and sweet cream. Complex roasty malt profile. Great body. Cream, light, airy. Light fresh chocolate cake. This is a fine foreign stout. Nice clean finish. An excellent, complex version.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Down beach Liquors, 9/11/09

Aroma: Coffee, bittersweet chocolate, some caramel, roasted malts, and a bit of earth
Appearance: Dark brown color, poured with a thin brown head, and a bit of lace
Flavor: Nice malty taste, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts, some light earthy/pete hops
Palate: A nice, thick, medium-full bodied beer, smooth and creamy mouthfeel
Overall Impression: I think you need to allow this one to breathe for a bit to get the full affect of the nose. This beer has a nice flavor profile. It is a good, smooth stout, that I enjoyed quite a bit.

Color: Pitch black Aroma: Chocolate, milkshake Flavor: Like the aroma on the mid-palate followed by bitter, burnt grain which quickly fades and then reappears at the end of a rich, smooth, creamy coffee finish. Comment: Though not too complex, I liked how the flavor evolved and changed. This has the deliciousness factor for those with a moderate sweet-tooth.

Pours and deep dark brown/black, with light carbination. Smelled of sweet malt, rich and heavy. Taste - Sweet, mouth puckering sweet, too sweet. The bitterness (hop and malt) came in late and did not offset the sweetness I tasted. For me, this stout was way out of balance, not a beer I would pick up again.
