shendrix (473), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Apr 9, 2008 A beautifully black beer with a nose of dark malts and oats, and a palate that brings together a remarkable array of competing flavors--but in such a way that the result is entirely organic and not at all contrived. Roasted oats are up front on the tongue, with a smooth malted syrup overlay, semi-sweet chocolates lurking in the background, and a uniquely earthy/oak taste offset against a mild, mild fig flavor. Very good.
GuilTTy (482), Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA Nov 28, 2008 Bottle from Martin’s in Mt. Laurel, NJ. Midnight black pour with faint ruby highlights. Aroma of roasted coffee, bittersweet chocolate and a touch of sweet malt. Aroma carries through to the flavors with a solid foundation of roasted coffee along with toffee, dried cherries, smoke and vanilla.
