THOUGHTS: A really nice foreign that was incredibly easy to drink and looked wonderful in a tulip glass. A great example of one of my favorite styles.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark, nearly black brown that was opaque black in the glass with a small, light brown head that mostly diminished and left fair to good lacing. The aroma was a little weak. There was moderate mild coffee, oat, chocolate syrup, cocoa powder, roasted and burnt malt, light yeast and light alcohol. The flavor was chocolate syrup, hot cocoa mix, dark fruits, bitter coffee, burnt and roasted malts. Nice balance of sweet chocolate and bitter coffee. The medium to full body was creamy and a little oily with lightly fizzy carbonation and a slightly metallic, lightly astringent, lightly alcoholic and smooth finish.

Nov 28, 2008 Bottle from Martin’s in Mt. Laurel, NJ. Midnight black pour with faint ruby highlights. Aroma of roasted coffee, bittersweet chocolate and a touch of sweet malt. Aroma carries through to the flavors with a solid foundation of roasted coffee along with toffee, dried cherries, smoke and vanilla. Smooth texture and a long finish that has a hint of pepper at the very end.

Nov 26, 2008 Bottle. Great aromas of chocolate, roasted chocolate and oats. Rich black color with mahogany head. Good rich chocolate flavors. Nice oats flavors too. Some roasted/burnt coffee. Hops flavors very covered but provide a nice slight bitterness., also some orange peel. Thick creamy mouth feel very warm in the stomach. Really nice beer.

Nov 15, 2008 Very dark brown, near black, with dissipating brown ring of head. Bitter chocolate flavor lingers in the finish. Very tastey

Oct 24, 2008 Pours black with a small head. Aroma of baking chocolate with a tiny hint of black olives. Flavor has more chocolate along with a good bit of cola. Very nice.
