Commercial Description:
A smooth and sturdy stout, made with 10% rolled oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt. The name is referential to the founders of Thebes, warriors who sprang from the earth when the teeth of a slain dragon were sown by Cadmus. Bittered with Chinook; finished with Cascade and Columbus hops.

pours a dark, oily brown with a thin mocha head. lots of espresso and coffee on the nose along with malted chocolate. flavor is a bit on the smoky side, with notes of milk chocolate and roasted malts, though rolls fresh across the tongue.

Thanks to Lexi for bringing this back all the way from Seattle... Rich dark pour and a gorgeous thick tan head. Aroma is caramel, chocolate and coffee. Wonderfully roasty aromas that intensified as it warmed. Velvety on the palate. This is one of the top 5 stouts I’ve ever had. An absolutely exceptional beer. Loved it.

Bottle. Thanks to BrianK for the share sometime ago. Pours a dark brown body with a creamy 2 finger h ead. Roasted coffee, chocolate, slightly bitter and silky. Some hop presence in good balance (a faint appearance if you will).

About a 3/4 inch high head of dense and creamy bubbles. Medium brown in color and lasts for quite a while. Rich chocolaty aroma with some licorice, sweet malts, roasted grains and a bit of coffee. Black like well used motor oil. Silky smooth palate. Lots of licorice again, dark roasted malts and some oat presence. Amazingly easy drinking and has a solid hops presence. Light alcohol presence. Finishes a little on the bitter side with a lingering roastyness. A damn fine stout!

THOUGHTS: A really nice foreign that was incredibly easy to drink and looked wonderful in a tulip glass. A great example of one of my favorite styles. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark, nearly black brown that was opaque black in the glass with a small, light brown head that mostly diminished and left fair to good lacing. The aroma was a little weak. There was moderate mild coffee, oat, chocolate syrup, cocoa powder, roasted and burnt malt, light yeast and light alcohol. The flavor was chocolate syrup, hot cocoa mix, dark fruits, bitter coffee, burnt and roasted malts. Nice balance of sweet chocolate and bitter coffee. The medium to full body was creamy and a little oily with lightly fizzy carbonation and a slightly metallic, lightly astringent, lightly alcoholic and smooth finish.
