Sweaty sock hop aroma and flavour. Very bitter finish. Some caramel, bit of buttery diacetyl maybe? I can’t see any other reason t have that butter. Could be better. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 17, 2006 A very good APA from Elysian. They usually have so many other good beers on tap that I rarely get this. Solid hops, but still very balanced. You could drink this all night. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 6, 2006 Although this beer definitely does make me feel like I have died and am walking through the Fields of Elysian. Although despite it shortcomings, this is still a great pale ale, just lacking in a few areas. Definitelytastes like more of an English tradition, this has a lot of rich maltiness, although it is uneccesary maltiness it is still complimentary, with the right additon of hoppiness, mild fruitiness. This is somewhat easy to drink, just do not think it turned out the way they were intending. omhper (12246), Stockholm, Sweden

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 1, 2005 (Draft: Elysian Brewing Company in Seattle/Capitol Hill, WA) Despite being named for a historic East Coast baseball field in New Jersey, this is a standard West Coast pale ale, hoppy, bitter, with a mildly sweet, light pale maltiness that shows more contribution to the palate than the flavor. Actually, as the beer warms up a bit, a pleasant toastiness and light nuttiness emerges for a not-so-standard West Coast flavor. The nose seems a bit English in nature, fruity, slightly malty, and lightly hoppy. Medium bodied, but fairly clean and crisp in the finish. Dark golden, light amber color, fairly hazy in appearance, and dozens of streams of carbonation bubbles originate from the sides of the tulip glass they serve this beer in. The off-white cap on this beer gradually subsides to a thin layer, probably kept alive in part by the carbonation bubbles, but leaves dense, ringed lacing on this glass. Kind of an unusual pale ale, and despite their claim that it’s a West Coast IPA, it a bit more distinctive than that, crossing some boundaries. Pleasant enough, but not fully capturing my attention. Pours a nearly-clear deep and dark golden with a nice fluffy off-white head. The aroma is grapefruit, pine, and rain-on-fresh-dirt; the flavor is a beautiful balance of grapefruit hops and biscuit malts, hints of sweetness and no metal, before a long and crisp bitter finish.
The mouthfeel is fine, pleasingly full, well-carbonated, and almost buttery on the palate. This is a very nice APA - well done!
