kmweaver (2273), Nicaragua Nov 1, 2008 Draft @ Elysian Fields. Pours a slightly hazy, tarnished orange-copper color; thin off-white head with patchy lacing. Slightly watery, vegetal bitterness in the aroma; seems floral and citrusy, but very stemmy; lightly astringency. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: significant amounts of citrus, floral, and vegetal bitterness; more astringency and bitterness than the aroma suggests; average carbonation; not so good at all. Lengthy finish: citrus / floral bitterness, some resins and toastiness; on the sticky side. PilsnerPeter (1631), Flushing, New York, USA Oct 30, 2008 Tap at Barcade: Hazy orange pour with a sticky off-white head. Has a bright and fruity nose with notes of honey, peach, candied mango, nice fruity American hops. Slick and sweet body. The flavor is both sweet and bitter. Lots of fruity/sticky/sweet resins- notes of orange, mango and a touch of lychee. Just a touch of malt comes through as it warms, giving off a toasted note. The finish is abruptly piny and long. Solid profile, but I’m long over sticky, alcoholic hop beverages which lack malt subtleties. TeamTrappist (206), jericho, New York, USA Oct 23, 2008 On tap at Barcade. Poured an orange amber. This beer has a huge hop and grapefruit nose, definitely smells imperial. The flavor didn’t quite live up to the nose. Decent grapefruit and piny hop flavor, with a decent bitter finish. Seemed a bit on the milder side for a 2x , but definitely tasty. darn1207 (344), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Sep 30, 2008 on tap from elysian bar in seattle after a mariners game. copper-orange pour. floral and grapefruit aroma. texture sticky and tingly at the same time. taste is slightly smokey citrus hops balanced with rich malts. dry and bitter throughout. K-8.5 skoisirius (486), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 29, 2008 Tap at Tangletown. WOW. Elysian scores another one! Deep bronze and gold color with a foamy whitish head that literally lasted the entire glass (extra point for that!). Beautiful. Big citrusy grapefruited hopped aroma with a fair amount of sweet malts to balance it out. Piney resin is hinted at as well. While being incredibly huge and big on the palate, this IPA is surprisingly smooth and mellow at the same time. Beautiful blend of hop characteristics. Mediumly thick body, slight resins. Nice lingering bitter finish that’s sweet. DAMN, that’s good!
