JorisPPattyn (4642), Antwerpen, Belgium Aug 5, 2007 Huge yellow-brown head, stable, over fully dark brown beer. (Milk)chocolate, a bit of liquorice, and perfumey dark malts in the nose. More (a lot more) liquorice in the taste, quite sweet and dry finish at the same time, not qutie bitter; woody and just short of spicy. Not very full bodied, a bit sticky. Not the worst of dubbels, by far.
SHIG (1670), Oberoffligen, Germany Nov 1, 2008 Bottle: Poured a dark brown almost black with a light brown head. The aroma is fruit mixed with roasted or dark malts. Taste is a dry dark fruit and malts. The finish remains sweet and slicky to the tongue. MiP (6337), Flensburg, Germany Feb 12, 2008 Bottle, 6.5%. Weak malt aroma. Cloudy brown colour, small tan head. Malty and dusty flavour, slightly roasted and slightly sweet. Above average carbonation, but OK. A good dubbel. altonbrownd (999), Amsterdam, Netherlands Oct 30, 2007 Bottle from Bier Koning. Dark hazy orange. Nice head. Sweet, tangy nose. Dark fruits. Carbed. Alcy finish. Decent. Rastacouere (5418), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Sep 21, 2007 Cloudy brown. Light off-white head. Quite yeasty in a rather dirty way. Stale bread meets light spices and caramel pudding. Milk chocolate, sugary start finishes eventually quite dry. Active carbonation, medium bodied. Earthy, anisey dubbel. Well executed in some ways, but seriously undistinguished in this tough style.
