Commercial Description:
A Brown Ale with a beautiful deep, dark brown mahogany colour. The nose reveals a spicy, herbaceous, floral, sweet aroma from trial Nelson hops. The beer is definitely malty, nice for this time of year, with good caramel and toffee characters shining through. A smooth bitterness balances the malt and will definitely tempt you for another pint!

Pint @ Zymergy Bar - ChCh. Brown with red highlights, nice mucky, off-white head. Definate crisp NElson hop aroma as described with flavours of superwine busciuts and a little peachy at times too with a nice light toast/faint bitter finish. Definately a session style beer and a shame ChCh didn’t see more of this one.

Bottle with - and courtesy of - yalnikim, pours a reddish copper with a light tan head. A deliciously hopped aroma that has it all - fruity, floral, juicy. The flavour carries some chocolate, with a floral character from the hops on a strong bitter palate.

Tasted 09/06/2008. Rigger from Regional Wines and Spirits. Probably more brownish red than reddish brown but I’ll bow to the colour specialists at Emerson’s. Light tan head that collapses, disappears and laces. New hops initially make me think of a combination of saaz B (Motueka) and Sauvin. Definitely quite fruity with hints of lemonade and strawberry, plus hint of dry grass. A bit of wood. Lots of biscuit and lightly toasted malt on the nose and in the front of the mouth, some aniseed in there before a tropical lemonade hop flavour carries it all the way through to a rich caramelly toasty finish. Light woody hopsmack on the palate. Nicely sessionable, like a stronger version of what Bookbinder possibly used to be. Probably more of an amber ale than a brown for me.
