A winter stablemate to the Emerson’s Weissbier, a delicious dark wheat beer brewed with a potpourri of different malts to achieve the tasty complexion; Canterbury lager malt, German wheat malt, crystal, caramunich, then finally caramelised and roasted wheat to complete the malty depth of flavours.

Serve 6 – 8° C. Style: South German dark wheat. ABV 6.3%

Aromas have a lot of banana, milk chocolate and bready yeast mingles with the malt. Flavours are much the same, although a pleasant bitterness comes through - a lot of this contributed by the alcohol. Hints of cinnamon and cocoa.

Bottle. Pours with an average sized off white head over a ruby-black body. Banana-bread aroma and taste of clove and banana finishing a touch sweet and spicey. Quite vigorous carbonation. Nice.

Bottle. Very dark ruby pour with a lrge, creamy beige head that lasts a while. Aroma has notes of malt, toffee, licorice and dark fruit. Flavour is very similar: dark fruit, caramel, chocolate and roasted malt stand out and, while there is a hint of licorice, it is more subtle than in the aroma. Full bodied, with lively carbonation, this is a very nice, easy drinking beer. Another excellent brew from Emerson’s.

Dark brown beer with lasting thin brown head. Gentle easy drinker with big wheat, biscuit, cookies and chocolate flavour. Soft banana undertone. Very tasty. Smooth.

As per the house lots to like here. Lots of fruitcake and spice on the nose with a great sweet underlay of banana peel and confectionary fruits. Less intense in the mouth, perhaps due to some reasonably high fizz, but the fruits and flavours on the nose are basically there. Malt firms up a touch on the finish and moves into the dark chocolate spectrum. Pretty tasty.

500ml bottle. Black and thick to look at with a mountainous rocky tan head. Aromas of bananas and caramel swirl from the glass. Nice low bitterness with a hint of sweetness blended together nicely.

500mL bottle from Regional. Pours cloudy brown, with a big fluffy tan head. Very wheat beery looking.
Aromas are strong here. Mainly banana and bubblegum, some chocolate poking through and a spicy hint of alcohol.
Flavour is full of banana, with a chocolaty roast malt background. This is a completely different beer at 10-12°C than cold, the flavours all intensify and balance perfectly. The body is malty and full, the finish is lengthy with such intense flavours.
I’d say this is almost the perfect example of liquid banana split, wonderfully decadent.
I’ve been drinking this beer a lot over the last year, but when served that little bit warmer the flavours really come out of their shell.
