MBison (445), Southern Highlands, Australia Aug 25, 2008 Bottle (500ml), vintage 07. Poured pale copper with a large, fluffy, domed, off-white head which lasted amazingly. A tropical fruit aroma with a burst of piney/fruity hops, strong notes of passionfruit; pineapple, mango, some apricot marmalade and sweet toffee malt. Flavor was a tropical fruity hop bitterness with sweet stonefruits (peaches, apricots), toffee malts, caramel, red berries, light notes of roasted nuts and some resin in the finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation, a dry/resiny mouthfeel, somewhat syrupy texture and a good finish. Very drinkable but seemed a little sweet and cloying at times.
Muggus69 (281), Sydney, Australia Nov 21, 2008 500ml bottle, Vintage 117B?
Served lightly chilled in chalice.
Hazy reddish amber body with dense offwhite heading leaving lace.
Big wheaty cereal-like malt aroma; sour grapefruit hops in there too, bit of caramel, bit of spicy fruitiness, overwelming overall though.
Syrupy texture, moderate to high carbonation, drying wheaty texture reminisant of Weetbix! Slight sharpness from hops/alcohol.
Mandarin-like hop character seems prominant, tart and juicy, plenty of wheat malt in the background, really hard to discern others flavours, seems slightly oxidised somehow. Finish is VERY dry and lingering.
Not sure about this one. Doesn’t seem like what i expected! dornoy (649), Lyngby, Denmark Nov 21, 2008 Orange head on a dark amber body. Very well balanced and drinkable. I am impressed at Emerson’s products, this Kiwi brewery has a great future. rlgk (3239), Motala, Sweden Nov 2, 2008 (EBF 2008) Golden/amber color, white head. Fruity citrus aroma. Malty sourish flavor, a bit vinous. SorenE (14), , New Zealand Nov 1, 2008 Pours a darkish amber colour. Malty aromas with various fruity smelss as well. Strong malt flavors with fruit and decent hoppiness. Generally a very tasty beer but unfortunately it seems inconsistent: I have picked up bottles that had a pungent yeasty banana smell and flavor (yes I know it’s bottle conditioned and I am always careful). Unfortunately I must deduct overall points for this. austone (580), Turku; Pori, Finland Oct 15, 2008 Bottle at EBF. Hazy orangey, coarse pale head. Gingery, citric aroma with some clove. Sweet, lightly gingery flavor, sticky malts, not much hops or anything else. Medium bodied, fizzy carbonation. An old ale?
