Hazy pale gold with a good head of moderate duration. Huge aromas of grapefruit, marijuanna, and malt. Delicious flavours divided equally between malt and floral hops with a crisp finish finish. I paid $10 for this bottle from The International Beer Store in Perth, and it was worth every penny! A delightful floral boquet and a crisp, light finish. Well attenuated and perfectly carbonated. A well constructed beer, even if it’s a Lager! highlandlad (1265), Sydney, Australia
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 9, 2005 A luscious fruity pilsener from NZ’s best brewer. I wish they’d get their distribution sorted out because this deserves a wider audience. Poured a pale lemon-gold with an enthusiastic 4cm head reminiscent of a well-poured German draught pils. Moderate head retention and a spackling of lace. It’s unfiltered and unpasteurised, with a hint of cloudiness. Highly unusual aroma - definite passionfruit notes, grapes and lemon juice. Bit of a fruit salad. Tremendously inviting - the kind of aroma that keeps you coming back for another sniff. Flavour profile is initially sweet and malty with tangy grapefruit hop notes. Puckering mouthfeel but very rounded. The finish is gentle, dry and bittersweet. The passionfruit follows through in the finish. This is a much fruitier customer than the traditional pils but it’s a real gem. (500ml bottle, International Beer Shop, Perth, best before Feb 06) DiscoForever (69), Dunedin, New Zealand
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 12, 2005 Ah yes, the all-time favourite - but has the ever-evolving recipe lost some soft fruitiness that the earlier brews boasted? AROMA of ripe grapeseed + fresh malt mash / strong fruity / citric bite / passionfruit icecream syrup / lychee. LOOKS: Bright golden, a tad hazy and a green hint? Off-white sudsy diminishing head. TASTE: Initial husky zang of hops and a wash of fresh grapes / citrus. Luscious and bitter - but the bitterness has a slight edge I’m not so keen on. FEEL: round, medium bodied, smooth with tingly hop bitterness. AFTER: Long lasting dry bitterness that’s clingy. Hops and a yeasty, dusky distant malt. DRINK anytime, especially as a thirst quencher or with food that is fresh & hearty, BBQ, Mexican, lamb.
OVERALL: Still luscious with surprisingly lasting bitterness and passionfruit flavours and that grape-ishness I’ve loved since my first sip all those years ago. It’s still the pilsner king in NZ despite leaning toward a harsher bitterness. A very versatile and satisfying beer, though, that always amazes with its uniqueness. Very balanced flavour with a strong but welcome bitterness and a crisp and refreshing finish. A world class effort and well worth a try. ozymanposs (18), Australia

Exquisite nose yet such mid and fufilling flavours in the mouth. One might almost think it were a wheat ale but it retains all the freshness and cleaness of a Pilsner while offering all the wonderful flavours of a wheat beer.
