Commercial Description:
Literally "dark wheat beer", it is made from the same wheat malt and yeast as the Weissbier plus a little something which gives a more pronounced malty aroma and flavor. Dunkel is chocolate dark with a first hint of sweetness, but a dry finish.

Bottle. At last I get to try this elusive beer! Pours a dark hazy brown with golden highlights and a medium golden head of fine bubbles. Estery aroma of wheat, chocolate and banana. Sweet wheaty palate with flavours of chocolate, banana, and bubblegum. Perfect carbonation and medium body. An excellent dunkelweizen.

Limited edition bottle 2008, pours a slightly cloudy brown with a foamy off-white head. A strong yeasty aroma, as you would expect from a here-weizen, with caramal and some cloves. Quite roasted and dry, with plenty of chocolate and caramal on the palate, and sweetish banana yeast. The finish is a touch thin, with a cleansing carbonation and a hint of tartness.

Bottle at the Twisted Hop in Christchurch 01.05.09. Pours hazy dark caramel, off white head. Aroma is yeasty, funky, musty, fruity. Flavor is yeasty, dried fruit, cheese, wheat, caramel, chewy and yet crisp at the same time.

Tasted several times but notes finally jotted down on 01/08/2006. Limited re-release, amped up to a stronger 6.3% (but still with Beer_Ledgend’s banana lump thing going on). Murky dark chestnut with ruddy highlights and a briefly balooning airy light tan head. Stunning aroma of chocolate, banana and fresh wheat, which has toned down over the last couple of weeks. It’s getting more wheaty and displaying light phenolic notes. Soft grainy sweetness up front, with a subtle hint of spice and cocoa through the middle, then a slightly tart, dry finish. A bit thin and prickly in the mouth at first, which detracts from the flavour, but this softens up as the beer breaths. Very nice. Tyrell loves it.

Special tasting, Regional Wines, Wellington. Hints of banana like the Emersons Weissbeir with more caramel. Not a huge fan of wheat beers but this is quite nice.
