Kind of middle of the road on this one. Poured light gold, with minimal head, some lacing. A bit of a grainy nose - but not unpleasant. Starts with a little grain, moves into a little sour, but finishes with a light hopping. Drinkable, but not entirely enjoyable. I didn’t finish the pint - not because it wasn’t good - I just didn’t care - it didnt reach out and grab me.

English Pub ale at the West Dundee Location. Golden, clear with a medium sized short lasting white head that left little lacing on the glass. Nose is slightly hoppy and thin, the taste is crisp initially with thin hops but then quickly move into more of a grainy or bready. Drinkable and as mentioned in other ratings quite a bit of carbonation mostly detected in the head, more of the fizz that you get from this one.

On tap at the West Dundee location. Slightly hazy golden with a medium-sized white head with nice lacing. Aroma of floral hops, vanilla cookie, and some slightly citric grapefruit. Crisp hop flavor, some saltine cracker and slightly sour, grainy notes (wheat hulls, rye). Moderately carbonated, perhaps just a bit more that I would have liked. Sour, grainy finish with some juicy lemon zest.

I found this beer to be quite unremarkable, which, sadly, may be a reflection of the piss-poor service at the bar when I had it. (The barmaid seemed to always have other things to do than wait on the folk sitting at the bar. She also knew NOTHING about their beers.) It poured a pale golden color with a good head, initially, at least, that did some excellent lacing. The aroma was a light & sweet grainy malt with a suggestion of herbal hop bitterness. In the mouth, this light-bodied ale had an equally so-so sweet malt taste, but the hops finally emerge to give you a lingering, earthy/herbal hop finish. MAYBE I’ll go back and rerate this some day.

Emmett’s Ale House, Downers Grove, IL
